The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsTonight, I think Mrs. Aristus and I are finally going to crack our bottle of champagne.
It's been in the fridge since the New Year. It stayed unopened for her birthday, our anniversary, the first indictment, and the second indictment. I think it is finally time. We will have a celebratory glass together.
And then, with any leftover champagne, I will finally have a chance to try out my bar book's selection of champagne cocktails. And I will share my experience with all of you.
Hope to see you tonight...

(22,440 posts)Suggestion: one glass of champagne each.
You will have a half-bottle left to make Mimosas and other wonderful concoctions. '

(72,523 posts)My bar book has about twenty or so champagne concoctions listed. I didn't know there even were that many. I've already got one picked out, but I can't remember what it's called. (Didn't bring my bar book to work with me...)

(19,800 posts)One is Elderberry liquor added, though it must come with a warning it can make you lose your concentration. One Thanksgiving I waited to have a cocktail until all side dishes were in the oven. I should have waited until after I took them out or gone easier on the Elderberry.
A delicious classic is a Peach Bellini. All you need is peach purée or even peach nectar from a can.

(103,809 posts)But I was told that I had to go to the big bluegrass jam up the road so I'll be happily rendering myself hoarse singing every song I know two or three times over weekend. Probably the most fun I'll have all year.
Enjoy your long awaited celebration, you deserve it!

(103,809 posts)Since the pandemic so it will be interesting to see how it goes and who's still around. It's kind of a local big deal, musician come from far away places for this one and we all play mix 'n' match for a couple days. Lots of fun, lots to learn... some of the finest flat pickers I ever seen will be there, one of them is who told me I'd better come. I have some favorites that a few groups will make me sing when I get to their circle. Starts this afternoon, I'm already warmed up!

(4,611 posts)I call it the French 77:
1 part gin (Botanist is my fave for this drink)
2 parts lemonade ( use homemade)
1/2 part Grand Mariner
mint leaves
lemon
champagne
Muddle the mint leaves in the Grand Mariner. Add the lemonade and gin in a shaker filled with ice. Shake it and pour over ice into glasses 2/3 full. Top with cold champagne, stir. Add lemon slices and mint sprigs for garnish. Stay home to drink this!

I'll have to get both.

(24,906 posts)I think she tended bar for awhile when she was in college. From my minimal experience at tending bar, I can assure you she was damn good at it. I think she is just one of those people who immerses themselves in whatever they are doing.
niyad
(134,034 posts)brain must be going. But I agree about her immersion in whatever she is doing.
I occasionally tended bar for a friend who was a concert promoter, particularly if he was staging a charity event. One night, which I have tried VERY hard to forget (I did manage to forget who was playing), the most popular drink was red bull (which I had never heard of until that night) and cognac. As a lover of good cognac, I was appalled. I shuddered each time the travesty was ordered. Unfortunately, it was ordered quite often. My only consolation was that it was not top shelf cognac.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
