I am retired, and not looking for a job. But why is it so many

employers do not want to even consider somebody who doesn’t already have a job? I was just at a restaurant and they had a sign up about hiring somebody for the counter and said must already have a job!

I’ve never understood that and I think it’s so unfair. Because if the job market is tight, a lot of people who want a job may not be able to find one, so consequently they don’t already have a job.

has been that HR departments have this "thing" about there being something wrong or off about people who are unemployed. Many companies want applicants to account for periods of unemployment, and universities especially want to know about everything you did or did not do.

Smaller companies or one-off businesses may have other reasons, but I suspect it all comes down to bring afraid of people who are unemployed.

of the movement to prohibit job applications from asking whether one has been incarcerated. But if this is their workaround, it's certainly unfair to hard working, motivated people who simply got laid off - or who just moved to a place a family member got employed so they had to leave a prior job. Or moved because there were no jobs where they moved from. I've been there.

It should be. I was laid off Winter 2010 and was able to secure another, lesser-paying job 4 mos later. I couldn't imagine the pain of being laid off and never getting another job due to policies like this.

Just all part of the working bull shit. I'm retired now

Every person my boss has hired that did not have a job is gone. One actually after he got his first paycheck said why does he have to pay taxes, he made more sitting at home. Another said he only got the job so his mom would not throw him out, but he quit after a month and called the boss and asked if his mother called to say he got fired.

The worse one actually was told to put his phone in his pocket while working, and flat out said no. The boss asked him how do you plan to work with your phone in your hand all day, the response was "I can get my work done just not as fast". I have to love my boss somedays, he replied " well you can get work done fast with one hand, you worked your self out of a job in 10 seconds " I am amazed the guy thought he could do electric work one handed, yes he had his phone in his hand for 7 out of 8 hours. He lasted 3 days.

Especially for a position requiring no experience in the position needing to be filled.

Of course I haven't worked at a full time job in the last 10 years. Before that I did work in a corporate environment for 35 years, part of the time as an HR Manager.

Have worked at part time jobs once I retired and never heard that condition for hiring.
