Seventeen sets of twins will start primary school in one Scottish local authority next week, the second largest number on record.
Schools in Inverclyde will welcome the twins for the first time on Friday 18 August, in an area that has colloquially become known as Twinverclyde.
In 2015, a record 19 sets of twins started primary education in the region.

Last year, six sets of twins joined the year 8 group at St Marys college in Northern Ireland.
In 2017, five sets of twins started at Hillcrest primary school in Bristol.

Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)...any background on why this area of Scotland is producing such copious amounts of a biology anamoly which is much more rare in the general human population.
Are parents of twins moving into that area from far and wide for some reason?
Or is there some historical biologic trait concentrated there?
Or is something else going on?
It seems with a mystery like this, the news reporting is missing it's mark by focusing the writing on the fact that these children, like any and all children, will be attending school.

like how we figured out a lot about genetics by studying amish communities.

(33,707 posts)More twins are being born than ever before but the world may now have reached peak twin, researchers say.
About 1.6 million twins are born each year worldwide, with one in every 42 children born a twin.
The number of twins born per thousand deliveries is now particularly high in Europe and North America - and worldwide it's gone from nine per 1,000 deliveries to 12.
