(57,835 posts)All the chain casual dining restaurants serve the same menu, almost all burgers and chicken. There's not even a deli or old time diner where I live now. Cracker Barrel used to fill my need for 'real' food, but their quality has gone way down.

all over the place in the Pittsburgh area. Every town had their Isaly's. I'll get back to you. From a quick glance they were close to PA/WV border. islays.com has recipes using there products

(40,579 posts)But sometimes my mom would stop there with me and my sister if we were out shopping and shed buy chipped chopped ham and if I bugged her enough shed buy me a little box of vanilla fudge.
I dont know why, but when we were kids my parents practically never took us out just for ice cream or a milkshake or anything like that.
Do they still sell all the same treats today? Do you ever go there, deb?

(6,714 posts)just downriver from Pittsburgh, our town had an Isalys. Wow oh Wow, did we love that place. Those chipped ham sandwiches with a big dill pickle were the best in the world! On a hot summer day going in there for ice cream - what wonderful memories - a time when kids went all over the place with no fear of being shot or abducted. Half the time our parents never even knew where we were. I think we had an advantage growing up during that time that kids now will never experience. Thanks for the memories!
