and hanging out with two of the great grandkids, aged four and six. we just picked them up from school. They just started first grade and kindergarten. Going to be a fun and busy weekend. Their mom is out of town and dad works on Saturday, so we came to help out and have a little fun ourselves. Dad and I are going to damage a bottle of Irish Whiskey over the next two or three nights.
They have a great cat, a senior large tuxedo. They took her in when her owner, an elderly lady passed away. She's still getting acclimated to her new home. She only likes old people, so she's all over us. She's rubbing her face all over me right now. She never wants to go outside, strictly a spoiled house cat.

(24,906 posts)The real fun is we plan to move here soon. My grandson is putting a small manufactured home on the property and we will rent it from him. Jobs took most of our kids and grandkids farther away from us, so now we will follow them like they followed us decades ago. Better medical care here, too. Also giving up driving when it becomes necessary won't mean standing a bus stops all the time. When you get older, you need to be near family.
Funny thing is, my wife and I didn't meet until our late 30s. I never had kids, didn't marry until I was 42. I've never changed a diaper and now I have six great grandchildren. You never know there the road of life will take you, but I'm liking this destination.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
