In general, I find that the Beatle fans who prefer the later Beatles tend to be scornful of the earlier Beatles, which I consider to be outright snobbery. (This is often true of Rock fans in general, especially of the FM crowd: pop-rock is schlock to them, but stuff that nobody bought and didn't make the Top 40 is great).
I think "Please Please Me" is about as perfect a two-minute rock-and-roller as one could ever hear, one of many such the boys recorded. After they achieved financial security and stopped touring, they did some of the most creative and ground-breaking music in the genre. And they almost (but not quite) invented the genre of three guitars and a drummer, a template followed by countless other groups once they showed it could be done; similarly, they almost (but not quite) invented the standard of bands writing their own music and playing their own instruments. (One of the reasons why I believe the Decca exec who says he never said the oft-quoted "groups of guitars are on the way out" when rejecting the Beatles is that, at the time, there were virtually no "groups of guitars" in existence yet)
I see similarities with Beethoven, who first showed that he was the final master of the old forms, and then went on to create an entire new direction for music, and became the first master of it. Some of Beethoven's later work is not very accessible, though, whereas everything the Beatles did is.

(60,612 posts)I very much liked "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" but I am trying to remember if it was Beatles or Post Beatles---the All Things Must Pass Album? by George.
consider_this
(2,847 posts)This song by George is on the Beatle's White Album, I don't see it listed on All Things Must Pass, but I did find one version in Spotify from a 2009 compilation album 'Let it Roll - Songs of George Harrison'.

Although I also came to like their harder stuff as it came out, this is a real oldie that comes to mind from time to time: https://video.search.yahoo.com/search/video?fr=mcafee&ei=UTF-8&p=beatles+tell+me+why+you+lied+youtube&type=E211US0G0#id=1&vid=1bb09d5280f89584c766a877e644e79b&action=view

(76,704 posts)1. Eight Days A Week - That walking bass line under the jangly guitars with the cool harmonies dropping on & out....
2. If I Needed Someone - an upbeat song sung in a minor mode. Happy & sad at the same time.
3. Lady Madonna - Love the way it just chugs along with the piano as the engine.
4. Penny Lane - Paints a great picture & how cool is that Bach Trumpet solo.
5. She's Leaving Home - Just love the whole mood it creates
6. Somewhere - Great flowing melody over cool chord changes
7. The Sun King Medley - Brilliant use of taking pieces of songs that they couldn't finish & making a suite of it.
There's many more, but I'll stop at 7.
