The original Cyclone was a notoriously rough ride. CentralMass Sep 2023 #4
I know the place well. My parents first took us there back in the 60's when it was Riverside Park CentralMass Sep 2023 #3

...why rollercoasters are always so compact.

That thing should be travelling through the entire park, above ground and below, through buildings, water features, general public areas, and around other rides.

I love the wooden structure with the steel tracks. To me that means I can ride it again without all the aging joints screaming.

Circa around 2012 or so we had a group outing where I worked and Six Flags won out in the voting.. we had a pretty big crew of engineers ranging in age from their 20's to 60's. I've been out of New England a few years and my memory may not be accurate but the first ride we hit was the big wooden coaster and the end of the park. I thought it might have been the Comet but most likely it was the original all wooden Cyclone. On a side note it was known to be a brutal ride. You got bounced, jarred, and banged around on it. When we got to the ride it was being worked on. We were in line near the stairs. We struck up a conversation on what could have broken and then entered into a failure analysis discussion on likely weak point in the structure and where it might "fail". People in the line ahead of us heard our conversation and left the line. Eventually the ride started up and we rode it several time. They brought in a roller coaster company who change the wood rails to metal ones and rensned the Wicked Cyclone. I moved out if Nee England in 2914 tge year that rebuild happened. .
