I have around 350 unique bottles gathered up over the past 25 years or so. Most are well beyond their use-by dates (3-5 years as a general rule), although I break out every now and then with no ill effects.

(9,914 posts)on flat 2" molding converted to narrow shelves, supported by 2" metal "L" brackets. The first iteration encircled all four walls of a 14' x 12' foot room (with primary use as a home recording studio), with shelves about 6.5 feet up from the floor. Eventually, after obtaining more bottles, I added another layer about a foot below the first one. Since that point after having moved a few years back, they've been individually wrapped and stored in boxes. I inspected them recently, and about a dozen or so had broken seals with contents seeping or totally evaporated. Some of the contents are slightly discolored, and appear less-red, likely due to oxidation. Given their "advanced" age, I'm hesitant to offer them up for sale to a collector. I have photos of the original set-up, buried in a box somewhere. Wish I had that to share which would likely be an improvement over the verbiage!

(23,591 posts)I used to get T-shirts but they take up too much room, and I never got into the smashed penny thing. ( I am still wearing T shirts from 1981)
I do wish I had started getting NPS passport stamps back when that program started. (my book would have elebenty billion from Mammoth Cave)
other things we collect: books (I dread moving), a very large quantity of Christmas ornaments, bats (figurines and stuffed plush versions), rocks (Mr YD is a geologist), cookbooks, pottery, Lladro Christmas Bells, Oaxacan carved wood figurines https://www.earthviewinc.com/cat-17-1-68/oaxacan-wood-carvings.htm These are our favorites! We only have a few but I love them!
I truly do dread moving! This is what happens when you move into a house with twice the room you had before and live there for 25 years!!

(15,673 posts)Fortunately, I took some sewing classes for other reasons, and I'm currently in the process of making five t-shirt quilts. All of them have been cut up and fusibles ironed on the backs (so I got a LOT of close space back), and they're divided up by Events, Destinations, College, Oklahoma (where I used to live), and Misc/Humor. Two of them are put together - just need to put a back on them. Need to get off my butt to get the other three (and some other projects) done.
Oaxaca, eh? One of my undergrads was Spanish, and my college had a program you could go on in the summer where you spend 5-6 weeks in Mexico, most of it with a host family in Oaxaca, where classes were held. A professor from the department also goes to teach whatever class you want/need as well as to organize trips and excursions. We also had free time, of course. Anyway, one of the trips was to a small town outside of Oaxaca known for their alebrijes, which is what I'm assuming you're talking about. I remember walking through a gymnasium-sized room with the floor filled with different ones. They were placed so there were "aisles," but I was still scared that I was going to trip and break them. Is any of your pottery the famous Barro Negro kind, also from the area?
yellowdogintexas
(23,591 posts)I do not even have any Native American pottery because it is very expensive.
Most of our pottery is from small local places like Prairie Fire
I envy you the trip to Oaxaca!!!
I have been to Spain, but my Mexico travel is limited to the Cozumel area
TlalocW
(15,673 posts)It's been a while, but I'm guessing that there are still a lot of Spanish language schools and classes you can take and maybe even ones where you can get trips as an add-on (our college had an agreement with one that allowed us to use their facilities). I would go in July, especially the last two weeks which is when they celebrate their Guelaguetza Festival.

We stumbled on Prairie Fire Pottery in a very small town in North Dakota. Now we have a bowl, platter, two flower pots, and a tile. Our daughter has a gorgeous art piece that is wall mounted. Every piece is very individual. https://prairiefirepottery.com/

(54,960 posts)I have two in my office and several more in my studio. There's a piano in our living room and a small rig in the den. Several are in cases in a closet. It's a bit crazy!
Over the years, different projects came up and there would be something specific that I needed. Too often, I'd buy the instrument, use it then not really have any use for it later. But they're my instruments!
When I was a teenager, I met Dave Brubeck the jazz pianist and he gave me a tour of their home in Connecticut. I noticed that they had keyboards around the house. I ask abut it and Dave laughed and said that when their kids were young, they didn't want any of them to say they couldn't practice because someone else was on the piano. Ever since, I've wanted to emulate that even though I don't have several kids who need to practice!
I also have a collection of original posters from Broadway shows, (40 or so) . I'm going to have to sell those this year as they take up too much space.

(23,261 posts)Not a heck of a lot. The F2 body needs work. Seals disintegrated over time, but the old lenses work with the new mirrorless, and no problem with "non-AI" (Aperture Indexing, not the other AI) that plagued DSLR owners.
I had the Hasselblad system repaired (a spring sprung after some 50 years) and that is ready at any time.
No additions. I am too old to collect anything but compliments (which fit in a small altoids tin, if they ever show up), bur I am looking for an eye-level viewer for the Hasselblad. It's damn near impossible to do close ups with the hood.
Same with the view cameras. Not adding. I define collecting as adding on. YMMV.
Not collecting, but preserving old computer stuff, namely the IMSAI, but the computer museum is too fussy to take it.

(11,373 posts)An extremely small collection of salt and pepper shakers. My grandmother was the collector, when she was downsized, she offered me the shakers. I only took two pairs since salt and pepper shakers aren't my thing, but they're my grandmothers.
Vintage cake stands. I don't what happened but I got bit by this "Need to collect vintage cake stands" bug. I blame getting older.
Indiana Glass. Again, this bug bit me out of the blue and I have no idea where it came from.
Stephen King and James Patterson hard cover books. I'm old school. I like my books old school. I don't own any audibles or ebooks.
Barbie's. I have had an infinite love of Barbie's since I was 4 or 5 years old. I've been trying to replace all of my 1980's Super Star Barbie's that I gave away 9 years ago but since the movie came out, it isn't easy or cheap. I still have quite a few collector Barbie's still in the box.

(2,199 posts)In the late 1950s through the late 1960s there was a thriving local band scene in Washington, Oregon and Idaho. I have a pretty comprehensive collection of albums of such bands as the Fabulous Wailers, the Dynamics, the Viceroys, the Kingsmen, Don and the Goodtimes, and my sister's favorite the Sonics.
I can't forget Merrilee and the Turnabouts, the Frantics, Dave Lewis, the Blue Notes, and of course Paul Revere and the Raiders, Tiny Tony and the Statics. There were dozens more.
