But if I had to choose a tv dad Id say Danny Tanner from Full House. Bob Saget was great in that role.

(9,083 posts)I identified with that show and with Eddie because I was a fellow only child of a single parent (in my case, my mom since my dad died before I was old enough to have developed a conscious memory of him).
Honorable mentions: Russ Lawrence of "Gidget" and Ben Cartwright of "Bonanza."

Later on, I was very fond of Tom Bosley as Mr. C on Happy Days. I was an adult by that time, but he was old enough to be my father.
