Raised by a mom and grandma, I longed for a dad and related a little to Opie.

Good times!

better than the dad I have. He’s not perfect but he’s the perfect dad. But if I had to choose a tv dad I’d say Danny Tanner from Full House. Bob Saget was great in that role.

His kids all got pretty free range and lots of opportunities to learn the hard way, but Ben was always there in a pinch. Plus, horses and tall trees around the ranch.

I identified with that show and with Eddie because I was a fellow only child of a single parent (in my case, my mom since my dad died before I was old enough to have developed a conscious memory of him).

Honorable mentions: Russ Lawrence of "Gidget" and Ben Cartwright of "Bonanza."

I especially liked all the dining room scenes where he always takes an interest in how things are going for the boys. A tradition that has long ago left us in many families.

Robert Young as Jim Anderson on Father Knows Best.

Later on, I was very fond of Tom Bosley as Mr. C on Happy Days. I was an adult by that time, but he was old enough to be my father.
