(47,940 posts)I'm much more interested in human conflict and resolution than blowing things up.
One episode of Next Generation blew my mind. It was brilliant and moving. I had to call my critique partner to ask her, "Did you see that?!". Darmock. Check it out.

Wonderfully written episode given the 2 main characters couldn't speak to one another.
And, Paul Wingfield as the Tamerian captain. Superb.

(26,856 posts)They have an "on demand" feature, as well as their schedule.
I don't have Paramount any more but I enjoyed ST ?Discovery, and Lower Decks when I had it.
Saw a bit of Brave New World as well..
I'm hoping at some point they will show up on some free streaming services. 👍
Some fans really hate the newer shows. Oh, well.
I go back to the original airing, too.

TNG never jumped the shark and got better each season.

(18,572 posts)... although in practice they often seem to be. For myself, personal reasons totally unconnected with the merits have made me have no interest in Star Wars. But the only bit of the Star Trek franchise that I care about is TOS, the rest of the franchise doesn't impress me, Patrick Stuart notwithstanding. So for all intents and purposes, I'm a "neither."

(12,554 posts)I'm really getting into STRANGE NEW WORLDS.
Star Trek gave us an optimistic view of the future, where all cultures and species manage to work together for peace.
It was also the very first show that gave us continuing, heroic African American and Asian characters. Not to mention the first interracial kiss!

(9,062 posts)Since that early success, the wins are few and far between.
Star Trek fans enjoy a lot more content, and there are still great TV episodes being made today (Strange New Worlds). Discovery has mostly missed the mark but is still watchable (I've only just started Season 3).
Star Trek seems to do better as a TV series than a movie. The streaming commercial-free versions feature profanity and close the gap a bit.
To be a Star Wars fan today is to suffer.

(24,906 posts)I only saw the original Star Wars movie, and I thought good movie, but I would have liked it better when I was 12 years old. I'm not a big science fiction fan anyway.
Now you see, Deb, I just realized I was about 12 when Star Trek first came on. I have never pondered that before. That's why I like these threads of yours.
