The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsThe day I've looked forward to all summer is here.
It's cold, gray, and rainy outside. And I'm sitting by the window in bathrobe and pajamas, nice and warm, enjoying not being out in it. This is the icing on the vacation cake. Nothing to do, no place to go. Just relaxing.

(54,595 posts)Yes, I get to hang in Cape Cod every summer, but now that's done until next July.

Moved to Colorado... not so much. (Except for this spring which was WONderful!)

(66,587 posts)Climate change is ruining some of that, and giving us unbearably hot summers. But now, Autumn has returned, and it is sublime...

(22,923 posts)I love the rain and wish we in California had more. (Except, of course, not like last year.)
Enjoy

(66,587 posts)I grew up a free-range child living in warm climates like Texas and Arizona. I hated it when rain prevented me from going outside and staying there all day.
Now that I'm an adult whose down-time (like every other working adult) is at a premium, any time I can relax at home, warm, cozy, and comfortable is time spent living my best life.

(7,230 posts)this summer. Luckily we got one good long soaking rain in late August that helped us on the homestretch to fall. Now we're back to cooler days and rain and I couldn't be happier. I realized early on in my life that I was not a fan of hot, brown, dry, dusty, semi-desert climates like what I encountered when we moved to California from the Midwest when I was a kid. I've lived on the East Coast and in the mountain west, but give me the Pacific NW and all the rain, cold ocean, big trees, greenery, moss, rivers, lakes, and snowy mountains in the distance that are nice to look at but you don't have to live in and deal with all that a high-altitude climate entails. Okay, sorry, I just started rambling away there...

(66,587 posts)If I get any more liqueurs in there, there won't be any chocolate at all.
Not saying that's a deal-breaker...

(114,186 posts)If you run out of peppermint schnapps ( I did once, it was dreadful!!), you can always substitute Vandermint chocolate mint liqueur, in the cute Delftware bottles.

(66,587 posts)I've got a small bottle of it in the fridge. Don't use it very much. I got it as part of a cocktail gift basket once. Even my 1,000-cocktail bar book doesn't mention chocolate bitters or what mixed drinks you can put it in. But that just encourages me to be adventurous.

(114,186 posts)found the three drinkers website, with five chocolate bitters reccipes, and that was just the first one! And they sound fascinating. Will keep looking.

But thank you for imagining me with taste and refinement.
