Our local crop (NY) was a no show due to a -14 freeze back in February.

Known for its very large, late ripening plums, President plum provides fresh fruit at a time when most others have already fruited. Versatile in that it makes for a rich, desert-like fresh eating and culinary plum, President plum has a refreshing sweet taste with a hint of acid. Resistance to bacterial spot and brown knot, we have observed President doing well in zone 4.

Must be paired with Italian or Stanley for pollination.

Much of the local harvest usually gets trucked to NYC farmer's markets, and some grocers don't label them as President Plums, they are just mixed-in together with the small Italian prune plums. Some years they are hard to find, and the season is short, but they finally appeared this week

Ripening mid-late September in upstate NY, this fruit is a large, high-quality prune-plum with reddish-purple skin and deep yellow, freestone flesh. It is a dual-use plum, great for fresh eating or processing. The flesh is firm and it ships well.

Ripening date: Sep 16 (approximate, in New York State) + 15 days after Stanley

Mango ice cream is a reality!

I'm in GA. This wasn't a good peach year, but when it's a good year, peaches are some of my favorites!

Most of the time I’m unlucky and get one without any flavor. But a good peach is divine!

3 little stories.

•More localish Peach season in NYC - then, just happening. I round a corner to go into a regular, and specialty supermarket. I pass the peach bin section outside.

Practically a "Whompf" of peach fragrance. Wow!
😄 🧡

•Rented a car and driving (NE to W Arizona) into the Navajo, and Hopi Nations. Stop at a multi-purpise store. Navajos had had peach trees.
Buy a few peaches which we put on the dashboard to fully ripen. 🧡

•In ?early 80's Ben & Jerry's held a "get to know us" festival in NYC's Central Park Big Lawn.
Amongst stuff they had a few tents - where if you write a post card to a Congressperson for one of their several causes you'd get a little sampler cup. A pick of ? 5 flavors. Up to 3/time.

I'm a Dark and Chocolate Ice Cream (etc) "addict" but alas non of that.

However there was a plain ice cream with fresh sliced peach pieces. Quite Impressive! 👍
For a bunch of years it became a seasonal offering in their retail stores.
