Whether Mary Shelley's well-spoken, improbably well-read version, or Boris Karloff's grunting, shambling portrayal. I always have sympathy for a creature who didn't ask to be created, and was abandoned by his creator.

Someone posted a tweet to the effect: "This new Frankenstein movie sucks because it's all woke and stuff. It makes out that the creature is the victim, and the doctor is the real monster."

Someone replied, with the kind of weary, suffering patience you need with people this stupid: "That was the entire point of the story!."

...I mean, Lon Chaney Jr is the unlikeliest "Englishman" in cinema history. The fact that none other than Claude Rains is his father--a duke, no less--is exquisite. Bela Lugosi as a Gypsy. There was always something sad about Chaney, Jr, and that's very noticeable in this film...
