(6,581 posts)Women, ok if they take care of their feet, have a nice pedicure, nails done, and the sandals are stylish.
Men, yuck. I guess it's just my own prejudice. I don't go barefoot, either, ever, except in bed.

(46,179 posts)I don't wear "sandals" in bare feet, but will with socks which can be washed more easily than the sandals.
In hot weather, I'll wear reef shoes, which I like better than regular flip-flops because they are softer.
Generally, though, I won't wear either if I'm going to be standing or walking much; I've rolled my ankle so many times that if I'm going to spend any time on my feet, I wear orthopedic shoes built for supinators.
They aren't sexy, but they are secure.

(30,994 posts)Keens. I have no other shoes. Thick wool sox for the winter, barefoot in the summer. Perfect.
(Rode my bicycle cross country in a pair of Keens...)

(5,364 posts)I'll lounge about at the beach or poolside in swim trunks with bare feet and maybe a T-shirt, but if I walk around in public I want long pants and closed toed shoes.

(55,027 posts)barefoot most of the time, flip flops (thongs, dammit I am old enough to know thongs as shoes, not underwear) tevas with socks in really cold weather.

(10,893 posts)I always wear tennis shoes (when it's warm) and boots (when it's cold and/or raining). And around the house, I either wear loafers or walk around in my socks. I just think they are more suitable for women to wear.

I love my Tevas.
Mine are similar to this but I've had them 5 or 6 years...
Now I have a friend whose feet look like a Hobbit's. I wish he would wear sandals much less.

(20,234 posts)Mouthwash and vinegar.
Seriously, mix them in a little jar and each morning and night use a qtip to put it on the nail(s). I saw this on Dr. Oz in Winter, started it during Feb break. After fighting the ick for years and years, going through prescription meds that damage your liver (and never fully cured the problem), this is what worked for me. I have a tiny little piece of discoloration that hasn't grown out yet - like the size of a lentil, but at my last checkup I showed it to the doctor and she said there's no more infection there at all, it's clean. That's just the growing out bit from where it had originally lifted off the nailbed.
When I started this in Feb it was half my big toenail, the full length of the nail, that was nasty.
Talking about my fungus infection isn't a normal sharing thing for me, but damn I wish someone had told me this sooner. It's so ridiculously easy and basically free if you have mouthwash & vinegar at home already.

(20,234 posts)And I made sure anytime I showered (usually morning, but sometimes in the afternoon after a workout), that I hit it right afterwards because that's when the nails and skin are most absorbent.

(18,219 posts)Antiseptic mouthwash like Listerine, or minty mouthwash? Or does it matter? Apple cider vinegar or white vinegar?
How long did it take to see results?
Just curious. You know, it isn't for me.
noamnety
(20,234 posts)I don't think this is the time to pull out the balsamic, but if I'd only had apple cider vinegar I'd have used that, I can't imagine it makes much difference.
And Dr. Oz. said listerine, but I had an open bottle of crest pro-health complete which is an alcohol free one, so I'm using that. I did a little research online after I heard it on his show, and the most important thing seems to be DO NOT USE THE GREEN LISTERINE because it will dye your toes green and it won't scrub off.
And you won't see results any faster than the nail grows, which sucks. Someone else I know started in May. He had a pretty bad infection for decades and couldn't treat it because the meds he was already on prevented him from taking the prescription pills for fungus. He said one big toenail was completely messed up, with some other toenails not as bad. Last time I talked to him was a week or two ago, and he's just starting to get clean growth at the base of his nail bed, so that was 4 months to knock out the active infection plus see clean growth. It's definitely a test of patience - something to start now if you want to show off your toes next summer.
I wish at the start that I'd taken a photo for my own reference and then once a month so I could measure progress.

In that order. Both are overwhelmingly convincing reasons.

(21,925 posts)especially the flip flop sandals. They look barefoot. And they wear them virtually everywhere, even in office buildings.

(9,527 posts)But outside of work, unless it's winter, I wear sandals basically everywhere, to the point of having tan lines on my feet. I don't care for the feeling of most shoes.
For those who say it looks unattractive, given how much barefoot training I do, my feet were going to be disgusting anyway.
