Many people say, "Oh that guy who did that song Cars?"
Well yeah, but he has done so much more. If you're a musician or an electronic music fan, you probably already know him. The man has made so much great music, it's crazy. He still makes good stuff.
I have been a fan since "Cars" when I was in 8th grade in the late 70's when that song came out. Been addicted to his stuff ever since.
The reason I bring this up now is, I just got the remastered version of Telekon on double LP vinyl. It's brilliant. I still have my original vinyl of Telekon and there is no comparison. The remaster is amazing.
Just geeking out hard tonight on this one. I want to get Dance next, as it also got the double LP treatment.
Anyone else a fan?

(12,744 posts)He was listening to Numan when his career was its lowest in the late 80s early 90s. Told him if Numan ever came to Phoenix Id go with him, convinced it would never happen.
Saw him 5 years later. And every time hes played Phoenix since. His last few albums have been monsters.
The live version of Bombers w/ Billy Currie on violin is my favorite tune of his.

(1,281 posts)In 93, my roommate and I could not get enough of Numan. This may sound weird, but we had a huge apartment in Chicago at the time and decided to have a Gary Numan-themed party. We thought no one would show up. We were way wrong. Every person we invited showed up and it was kind of legendary. Our place was on the second floor and I thought it might collapse. Even our landlords showed up. To this day, friends of mine bring up that party and how much fun they had. There are pics galore. Poeple dressed up in their best cheesy 80s gear. And we played Numan's music all night, nothing else. I could not believe it went that well.

(12,744 posts)The young goths have adopted him. And his last album, Intruder, is almost as good as his peak work from 78-80.
The guy never stops. His first resurgence was in the late 90s early 2000s. I went to see him on his first US tour at that time and it was unreal. He was so good live. Heard the first single from Intruder, really good.

(101,077 posts)Until just now that I looked it up I see that I am a fan.
I just never knew who it was that produced these electronica gems from my past... the soundtrack of night driving around LA in a large vehicle, cruising past the refineries. "Cars" comes to mind immediately.
I thought I would never discover who this was! Wow. Thank you!
Youre welcome! Just wait, youve got decades of good stuff. He had a slump in the late 80s, but came back. Enjoy!

(101,077 posts)I am familiar with far more music than I can name from any genre. There is a whole database of songs I know nearly every note but not the title or composer. A life of listening to radio where they often don't tell you who you are listening to or you miss the announcement. Obviously I can go for decades not knowing who made a great song from the past. Also, one of my cruise-LA jobs included a vehicle with a killer stereo system that had cassette recording capability so I would record stuff from the myriad radio stations in LA as I drove around so no titles and some rough edges here and there.
There is a song that was popular on FM radio in the summer of '16 that I can't trace back to a title or artist, makes me a little crazy sometimes.
This Gary Numan revelation is a major mystery solved!

(2,775 posts)Outlander Tour. I was 17. He asked me if he came to America to tour, who he should tour with..
I told him Depeche Mode.. LOL.
One of my favorite bits of concert footage was of him performing "Down in the Park" - Urgh a Music War.

(1,849 posts)It was the Synthesizers episode, and he was great. He talked about his original musical days as a regular old punk rocker with a guitar, but when he played around with synths, he could make music that was still heavy and rocking, but with no guitars.
The Ronson series is on AppleTV+ and it's pretty good.

(1,281 posts)I need to check that out!
Was listening to Berserker tonight. Such a weird and wonderful record. It's hard to point to any one of his records and say it's his best. I just got Intruder. I love that too.
