One of the greatest science fiction movies ever made, in my humble opinion. Not to be confused with that recent remake, which was pathetic.

(28,493 posts)I post this one every time one of these threads pop up, and no one has ever identified it. And it's not an obscure movie. Just one that goes back several decades. But surely, there are plenty here who have seen this movie.
I'll say this: I did not see that movie when it was in the theaters, but quite a while later on TV. When that line was spoken, my husband and I all but fell off the couch because it was so meaningful about 20 years after that movie came out. It's even more meaningful now.

(28,665 posts)But I know its from a movie based on a Larry McMurtry book Horseman Pass By but the line is not in the book, afaik
✌🏻
PoindexterOglethorpe
(28,493 posts)I was so blown away by that line in the movie that I promptly got hold of the book. The differences between the novel and the movie go far beyond that one line, of course, but that pair are a good example of both being very good for what they are.
Another example of good book and better movie is "Terms of Endearment." The novel is mostly about Aurora, the mom. The movie takes what's perhaps the last quarter of the novel, about Emma, and makes her the main character. Again, I like both a lot.

(28,665 posts)Is The Evening Star one of my favorites of the series. It unfortunately bombed as a movie, so Ive read.
But a great book. Its the last of the 6 in the Houston series.

For extra credit, what TV series did the waiter later appear on as a regular character?
VGNonly
(8,549 posts)Michael Imperioli
You must remember the homage in The Sopranos when Christopher shot the pastry guy in the foot. Extra credit, who was the patron of the donut place? He later was a major character in The Sopranos, just a bit part in that episode.
red dog 1
(33,460 posts)(And I have no idea who the patron was)
VGNonly
(8,549 posts)The patron was Vito Spatafore. (Joseph Gannascoli)
red dog 1
(33,460 posts)Christopher didn't have to shoot the poor guy in the foot...He apologized, and he was getting the Italian pastries he wanted.
But Christopher did eventually get what he deserved (I think in Season 6)
After Christopher, high on heroin, caused that accident with Tony in the car, Tony held his nose so he couldn't breathe.
