The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI have questions about two commercials.
1) I was told today that there is a Pampers commercial that advertises some new kind of Pampers that have a "blowout barrier". I'm not sure exactly what a blowout barrier is, but it sounds like something that might be useful to me. My questions are: Why can't I buy boxer briefs that have a blowout barrier? Also, is a blowout barrier in the back or the front?
2) In one of those "Balance of Nature" commercials, there is a woman who I think is a physical therapist. She says she is 60 years old, but has the energy level of a 27 year old, because she takes Balance of Nature. My question is: Why 27? Why not 24? Why not "mid-20's"? How can she hone her energy level down to the specific age of 27? Are you able to remember exactly what your energy level was at age 27? I can't.
Be careful when you watch these commercials.
They raise questions.

(53,179 posts)They lease space to the Scientology people and their CEO took Scientology courses, Handling the Ups & Downs in Life Course and the Personal Integrity Course.

They actually set aside time in a lot of meetings for managers to testify about how Hubbard has blessed their lives, the person tells us.
And then they showed us this detail from the employee packet that new hires get
Balance of Nature pays for instructors of Hubbard College to travel to St. George and offer courses each month. All employees are encouraged to attend each month and are allowed to invite their spouse or family members with approval through a CSW. Credits earned may be applied to a Business Administration Degree. Attending Hubbard College is not mandatory but is certainly encouraged. For more information, speak to your Manager.

We sent a detailed message yesterday to Balance of Natures Div 7 Executive and VP of Public Relations Liz Cummings, asking about Balance of Nature as a WISE operation and Scientology front. Well let you know if she gets back to us.
UPDATE: Heres the response we received from Balance of Nature:
You sought an explanation regarding Balance of Nature business dealings, and what we do or do not post on our website.
Please note and report in all your future communications:
Balance of Nature is NOT a World Institute of Scientology Enterprises (WISE) operation.
We do lease some very limited space at our St. George headquarters on River Road to several different outside businesses. This does NOT imply our association or partnership with any of those entities.
The mis-communication you received from someone from our office: That the company flies out Hubbard People from Los Angeles is NOT accurate. We request that not be printed, communicated, implied, or supposed.
Also note, you have identified the wrong name of our CEO in your inquiry.
Thank you for taking the research time needed to ensure the accuracy of your portrayal of Balance of Nature.
Sincerely,
Dennis Leavitt
VP of Public Relations

(14,719 posts)They are regulated in Europe, but not here. You can literally put a bit of vitamin D and/or B-12 and sell it as an elixir of life.
Those idiotic Prevagen commercials are the ones that irritate me. Says it may take weeks or months until they are fully active, but people swear they can tell their mental functioning is better than its been for decades.

(16,159 posts)We used to call it a poo-splosion. If a baby hasn't pooped recently, sometimes it all comes out at once. And regular diapers can't contain it all.
My kids rarely had this problem. But a friend had to deal with it regularly.

(93 posts)having seen that commercial, I seriously doubt she is one. At least I hope not.
She says she works in a PT clinic, but that does not mean she is a licensed PT.
She could be a licensed PT Assistant.
Or, it seems to me, a PT "tech" which is not a licensable PT profession, it's a "helper" who often gets on the job training and whose work roles may be constrained by state laws.

As far as Fruits/Veggies, yeah, this seems to be a scam. Really tired of seeing these show up on MSNBC commercials.
