Freaked out my cat tonight by trying on my Halloween costume.

She (the cat) was ok when I put on the satiny white nightgown, with ragged, gauzy white pieces hanging from the sleeves.

It's when I tried out the face makeup that she crawled under a table and peaked out at me nervously. I had sprayed my face (eyes closed) with shimmery white colored hairspray and surrounded my eyes with dark charcoal eye shadow. The final straw for kitty was when I draped white cheesecloth over my head and shoulders to match the gauzy, ragged pieces hanging from the sleeves. Kitty ran and kept backing away from me when I tried to get near her so that she could see that it was still me.

I guess she got "spooked" seeing me as a spook.

except that my fingernails are still covered in sparkly silver polish. Did not think of taking a pic at the time. Was too occupied with trying to reassure kitty that it was me.

She apparently does not like anything strange on my face or head. One time a few sumners ago, I put on a wide.brimned straw hat to protect my face and neck from the sun. The cat arched her back and was visibly frightened until I took the hat off.

7. Years ago, before I was married, I had a roommate who had a masters degree in German.

He still participated in the activities of the University German club. I was working nights at a radio station, and got back to the apartment about 1 AM one winter night.

The door to the apartment opened into the living room. That opened into a hallway that led back to the bedrooms, with the bathroom off the hall to the right. For some reason, we had replaced the light in the hall with a blue bulb. When I opened the door that night, the apartment was dark except for that blue light. What I saw in the hallway was a figure emerge from the bathroom, and turn toward the bedrooms.

And then the figure stopped and sloooooowly turned to his left to lear at me. WITH THE WRINKLED FACE OF AN OLD MAN — BATHED IN EERIE BLUE LIGHT. I freaking levitated!

It was my roommate, who had just returned from a German Club Faschingsfest costume party, for which he had attached wet kleenexes to his face and hands, powered them with blue and silver powder and let them dry and wrinkle. He called it the Blue Meanie.

That was more than 45 years ago, and I still haven’t forgiven the SOB. You need to make amends with your cats.

8. I had a pair of pointy cat ears that attached to my head - totally freaked out my cat

Apparently, ears and how they are positioned are a big deal to cats. He didnt mind the face make up or any of the rest of the costume, it was just the ears that bothered him. I probably looked like some kind of animal-human hybrid ! He just couldnt figure it out. It really surprised me, cos I didnt think cats paid that much attention to what we looked like.

expect us to look a certain way. They get used to us changing clothes, wearing coats and boots, etc. But our faces and exposed body parts (like ears) don't usually change. So when they do, cats can get disturbed. My cat's look tonight was like saying, "Who are you? And what did you do with wnylib?"

10. Years ago, (before water shortages), I was planting seeds in the bare spots of my lawn

But, as soon as I planted seeds & went inside, the birds would fly down & begin eating all the seeds.
So I decided to make a scarecrow, to keep the birds from eating the newly planted seeds.
I had never made a scarecrow before.

It was pitiful, just a tall stick with another stick across for arms & I put an old hat on it & gloves on the end of the arm stick.
Of course, it didn't stop the birds from eating the seeds....It was probably the worst scarecrow ever made.

But I wanted a nice looking lawn, with no bare spots, because I was about to put the house up for sale.
So I made a new scarecrow, using a 6' pole & piece of wood across the chest area, like before.
I attached an old pair of sweat pants to the bottom part, and slid an old, blue long sleeve shirt on the "chest pole' with the sleeves coming out of each side.
Then, I made a "face" using the head of a large, old doll I had given to my dog as a toy.
I used bright red magic markers & made eyes, a nose & mouth for the face.. [The face looked a little "scary"..even to me]
After putting the hat on it, I decided to take a break before sticking it in the lawn and laid the scarecrow against the house.
Just then, my dog came out of the house and immediately ran up to where the scarecrow was and started barking ferociously at it.
(I had to laugh at that)
After I stuck it in the lawn, fewer birds would fly down to eat the lawn seed....So it was a partial success.
