As stated in the original show 'bible' and the original series, how many vessels of the 'Starship' class did the Federation commission and send out to explore the galaxy (not counting replacements, because according to the info, there were two built)?

Depends on what episode.
The Enterprise was Constitution class, but a couple episodes show the commissioning plaque with "Starship Class".
But, there were 12 Constitution class starship.
Geeky enough?

According to the information I have, Roddenberry started out writing about 12 vessels of the 'Starship' class. As the show progressed, they added the 'Constitution' class part. As I understand it, he was not overly keen on this change, but after a time just went along with it. (He also did not like the idea of Sulu, Uhura, or Spock having other parts to their name. That being 'Hikaru' Sulu, 'Nyota' Shura, and 'S'Chn T'Gai' Spock. The novels pretty much ignored him and soon he had no choice but to go with it.)

Again, a Gold Geek Star to ProfesserGAC!

My mistake, they're not scaly reptiles, but scaly mammals.

Each year, up to 2.7 million pangolins are poached from the wild across Africa and Asia.
Their scales and meat are used for food, leather goods and medicine.
Because of this, these adorable, shy, reclusive animals were officially added to the endangered species list in 2012.

While living in the Rocky Mtns. of Colorado, my wife and I found a hummingbird feeder, which had previously been hanging 35-40 ft. above the ground in a pine tree, in a mangled little wad at the bottom of our driveway -- sucked dry.

I'm pretty sure the culprit wasn't an orangutan.
