(523 posts)What is the best selling SF/Fantasy book (or series) of all time?

(523 posts)but I believe that is partially due to poor reporting of sales in the 60s and 70s vs todays record keeping. He had my vote, also.

Fantasy, not sci-fi.

(523 posts)ScienceFiction&Fantasy JK Rowling has sold more H.Potter books than any other series franchise.

(523 posts)I remember reading Dune in the late sixties and being blown away by it. It is the best-selling science fiction book ever. However, Harry Potter is #1 in SF&Fantasy.

Who was his famous uncle?
I just heard this bit of trivia on True Oldies Channel today.

(4,017 posts)Richie Valens?
Marthe48
(23,288 posts)Richie Valens died about 5 years before the uncle died.
Richie Valens was 10 years younger than the uncle, but their careers overlapped.

(23,288 posts)The dj on True Oldies Channel offers many tidbits about the singers we grew up with. I think I pay more attention to details now than I did then
I liked the song, Take a Letter, Maria. The uncle had many more hits, and I think I liked his songs better
LisaM
(29,666 posts)If that's right, I have no clue on the uncle, unless it was Ted Williams!
Marthe48
(23,288 posts)who is not Trini Lopez
This might be a giveaway, but one of the uncle's hits was a song in a movie based on a Stephen King story
LisaM
(29,666 posts)I looked it up afterwards. Also, I was mixing it up with the song about the guy calling information to get the number of some four year old in Memphis, Tennessee! At least they were both novelty songs.
Marthe48

I really wasn't paying attention back in the day!

Marthe48
(23,288 posts)He had such a variety of popular songs. And yes, that voice. I listen to True Oldies Channel, and they play his songs often. I still stop and listen

(11,314 posts)As stated in the original show 'bible' and the original series, how many vessels of the 'Starship' class did the Federation commission and send out to explore the galaxy (not counting replacements, because according to the info, there were two built)?

(77,006 posts)Depends on what episode.
The Enterprise was Constitution class, but a couple episodes show the commissioning plaque with "Starship Class".
But, there were 12 Constitution class starship.
Geeky enough?
OldBaldy1701E
(11,314 posts)According to the information I have, Roddenberry started out writing about 12 vessels of the 'Starship' class. As the show progressed, they added the 'Constitution' class part. As I understand it, he was not overly keen on this change, but after a time just went along with it. (He also did not like the idea of Sulu, Uhura, or Spock having other parts to their name. That being 'Hikaru' Sulu, 'Nyota' Shura, and 'S'Chn T'Gai' Spock. The novels pretty much ignored him and soon he had no choice but to go with it.)
Again, a Gold Geek Star to ProfesserGAC!

(33,290 posts)My mistake, they're not scaly reptiles, but scaly mammals.
Each year, up to 2.7 million pangolins are poached from the wild across Africa and Asia.
Their scales and meat are used for food, leather goods and medicine.
Because of this, these adorable, shy, reclusive animals were officially added to the endangered species list in 2012.

Harker
(17,933 posts)but you're not likely to see Smokey cruising the canopy from tree to tree.
While living in the Rocky Mtns. of Colorado, my wife and I found a hummingbird feeder, which had previously been hanging 35-40 ft. above the ground in a pine tree, in a mangled little wad at the bottom of our driveway -- sucked dry.
I'm pretty sure the culprit wasn't an orangutan.
