Call in to work early Friday morning with L-Tryptophan poisoning.
My recommended script is as follows
Hey Boss? I won't be in today, I've been diagnosed with L-Tryptophan poisoning. I called Poison Control and they recommended that I lay still until the symptoms subside, hopefully sleeping, as that will reduce the symptomatic experience. I'm really sorry. I will keep you updated as this condition warrants. Good bye.
Please respond back if this works please.

(16,953 posts)I don't mind at all. I've never enjoyed shopping anyway and anything over 20 hours a week is time and a half for me. It will be an easy day to boot. Picking up extra hours on my end means another co-worker will get to spend that day with family. It's a win--win.

(41,691 posts)I won't go anywhere near a shopping mall or retail store on Friday after Thanksgiving. Nope!
However for office workers, Black Friday isn't bad at all. I've worked a few Black Fridays and the office was almost empty. The phone never rang, I don't think there was even a mail delivery.
Mostly you just check your emails every hour or so, and play solitaire on your computer. The office workers usually got to leave early since there wasn't much to do. On top of that, everyone feels sorry for you, but you had one of the easiest days of the year.
