The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI just watched "Miracle on 34th St" (the original) for the first time.
Synopsis:
Creepy random adult man lures child into his apartment and manipulates her as a way of getting into the mother's pants.
This also involves convincing said mother into welcoming a senior man, who she firmly believes is insane, into her home as well.
I guess the 40's were a different time.
somebody is giving the Grinch a run for his money. How on earth did you come away from watching that heartwarming movie with that analysis?

(100,133 posts)Pretty much the same era.
Times change, and with them certain ideas about the cuteness and the innocence of childhood also change.
You just watched a beloved classic from 1947 that has been a holiday favorite for going on 8 decades, and instead of allowing yourself to step into that world of innocence and accept it for itself, you put on your NYPD Blue hat and watched it like a 21st Century cop.
For myself, I might suggest it is treacly, but not that it falls into the moral panic of the modern GOP. YMMV though.
