(55,141 posts)Usually just plain, but sometimes sc&chives. Late summer I had a real thing for Bratwurst flavor. Didn't like beer chips.
I notice both Aldi and Giant chips are same size bags, made in Canada, same price some days too. Potato chip collusion.

(2,369 posts)Introduced to it years ago in Austin TX, might be more of a southwestern region distribution. I'm not fond of flavors like salt & vinegar, or dill pickle, but the mild lime flavor works for some reason. Maybe it's the cerveza you wash 'em down with

(6,640 posts)so I tend to buy plain. Kroger has a store brand wavy chip that's reduced sodium and sturdy enough to handle a good dip load, so I'll go with that as may favorite. However, if you force me to eat a chip sans dip, then I guess I'd go with salt & vinegar. I never eat those now but I did enjoy them immensely as a younger man.

(6,640 posts)Back in grade school I spent the night at my buddy's house. He had an older brother, and my buddy and I were playing a game at the kitchen table when the brother sat down to watch. It was then I noticed he was holding a table spoon that had a big dollop of mayo on it, and he kept taking licks from it. He said it was something he did routinely, and I nearly gagged.
Chip dip and mayo must never be alone. Or together, before someone suggests it

(28,493 posts)The artificiality is incredibly obvious to me.
Perhaps what matters here is what you eat, where you source your food. I do most of my cooking from scratch. I boil potatoes and mash them. I make soups and stews from the raw ingredients. I do very little baking these days, but in the past I always made cakes, brownies, and cookies from scratch, meaning the sugar, flour, vanilla, cocoa, and so on.
Several years ago I got into the habit of baking something and bringing it to work to share on Fridays. It was almost embarrassing to realize how few of my co-workers had ever had anything made from scratch. I made cookies, brownies, cakes, and I loved sharing them, because I love to bake, and since I live alone, I need to make sure those things are eaten before they can go bad.
If you've only ever had a cake made from a mix, a cookie from the cookie dough you buy at the grocery store, they are not remotely the same. Oh, and the time invested in baking the cake or the cookies from scratch is at best 15 minutes longer than opening the box or cutting open the cookie dough. Not a lot of time.
The sad thing is that people start using these supposedly time-saving options, and after time don't recognize what they are giving up. Perhaps one of the important reasons that I'm so phenomenally healthy is that I don't use these "short-cuts."

Interestingly, the goo on Cheetos does not bother me much at all. I really like Flamin' Hot Cheetos

(60,612 posts)I remember when Snyder's were good and only available out there regionally. Such good hard pretzels too. I liked Herr's chips more than utz. Now everybody has been buying each other out and things just seem different. It's like with good Lebanon Bologna. Years back I could get some real differences in the brands but now they're sort of all the same to me. I don't like the sweet stuff at all. I like it to kick me with a good tangy flavor and let the meat flavor and smoke come through. Seems like places tone things down in order to appeal to a wider base.

(10,104 posts)Somewhere along the way they decided to make them healthier and hardly put any salt on anymore. Blech. They should sell Extra Salty ones like Unique pretzels do. (Can you tell Im Pennsylvania Dutch? Very particular about pretzels, which are of course responsible for my hips!)

(9,056 posts)are the ones for me. They have the narrow ridges instead of the wide ridges. Really crisp. I used to eat dip like crazy but got away from it. Several years ago there was a brand of thicker chip that was real old school and was greasy as all get out and salty. You could see a glisten to the chip. You needed paper towels handy to wipe your hands and mouth. It was something like Mrs. Smith's or something like that. Cheaper than the big brands too. Man those were great chips with cold beer and a football game. They'd have me dozing and drooling before half-time.
