If I'm not moving, i have to have a space heater blow directly on me.
Blankets don't help. My teeth still chatter.
Thyroid is OK, nothing in blood work that explains this.
Even in the summer.
Been like this for a few years.
Sucks.

(27,558 posts)I lived briefly in a place with no heat and it would get 30 degrees. I wore two sets of thermal underwear and double socks and a warm jacket all the time. I survived that experience but it was hard.
LuckyCharms
(23,078 posts)It's 69 degrees in here (before the space heater use).
When I put more clothes on, I get too warm.
I've had times where I've had to have both a fan and a heater blowing on me.
It's crazy making.

(27,558 posts)Also have you seen this robe. My husband brought it for me but I get too hot.

(23,078 posts)It is because men lose testosterone as they age.
She says women get hot flashes, men get cold.
I wish someone would tell my libido that I'm losing testosterone, because it apparently doesn't know yet.

(38,053 posts)Ive been on testosterone injections for nearly 30 years. Keeping mine at 350 to 400 works great for me.
I also have neuropathy and have cold feet at night. Just ordered a new sleeping bag that works great at night. Rated for zero and above. Working great. Love the soft cotton lining.

(12,464 posts)I refuse to eave money on heat. Itll come out of my SS and IRA but I dont give a damn. I am not going to spend my remaining time freezing to death. Besides, I may have to relocate to Mexico after 2024.
LuckyCharms
(23,078 posts)And I don't blame you for cranking up the heat.

(2,127 posts)When I can't seem to get warm, I'll jump in our jacuzzi for just a few minutes ... and will feel much warmer for hours afterwards. I suspect a hot bath would do the same thing. No clue why really, but fyi. And ofc your milage my vary.

(41,053 posts)And husband is always cold. We have an electric blanket with dual controls. He cranks his side way up to 5 and mine is never above 1, which sometimes still is too hot for me and I throw off the blanket when I wake up in the middle of the night five times more or less because I never sleep well. And, no, its not hot flashes. Been there, done with em.
I told him hes lucky he has a hot wife

(17,932 posts)always run cold since my twenties (I am in mid sixties). For me, I find if I move around more I warm up. I also have to think my meds and arthritis since childhood dont help with this problem.

(12,128 posts)Mrs. Lucky needs to sit on your lap to keep you warm. All joking aside, here's a few things I would like to mention.
Type 2 Diabetes sometimes can cause nerve damage that can result in neuropathy issues (feeling cold, numbness is hands and feet)
If your taking high blood pressure medication such as beta blockers and calcium channel blockers, these meds can cause decrease blood flow which makes a person feel cold.
It could be any number of things like sitting cross legged at the knee's for too long or your skin is starting to thin which unfortunately happens to us all eventually.
Perhaps if it's only your hands and feet are feeling cold, I could suggest some light sit down exercises. I don't know if you would actually do them; they're super easy. Let me know if you're interested.
Be well, Lucky!

(23,078 posts)Yes, I'm Type 1, but it has the same effects.
Those are some good tips.
Thank you.

(851 posts)Considering how much it improved my life, the cost was a steal. if I remember right, it was less than $200 for a queen-sized deluxe model with separate his & theirs temperature controls/timers.
I used to get in bed and spend about an hour shivering trying to heat up the bed. Blankets didn't help because I'd just be covered by a pile of cold blankets that took longer for my body to heat up. And really, I never heated up the blankets - they just drained my body heat and I never rested as well as I should have, even if I was asleep.
Now, the bed is warm as toast as soon as I go to bed, I fall asleep faster and sleep better. Plus, I wake up warm and stay warm the whole day, without having to bundle up OR heat up the whole house.
Literally life-changing.

Also, do you notice any difference based on how recently you've eaten? I often feel colder when low on fuel.

(9,083 posts)Currently, I am running a space heater and wearing a wool cap. I always thought I might have hypothyroidism, but the last blood test I took said that was only borderline. I hadn't thought about lower testosterone levels (I'm 62) or blood pressure medications (I take two) mentioned earlier in this thread as being potential causes.
I hope you can get warm! One silver lining is that this cold weather can't last forever.
