My younger sisters best friend and I went for a walk together, we sat in my childhood backyard on the crumbling foundation of an old grain silo. This 16 year old girl and I talked into the night about now forgotten subjects.
That was 54 years ago.
After having many dreams about that girl, about 4 years later we wed.
Our wedding day was a blowout party all day and into the night and beyond.
Next morning while watching football in our hotel room, shes a huge lover of the game, we decided that our anniversaries would be our day so we have celebrated without outside fanfare for decades.
Today, we will be wed for 50 years but weve been in love with each other for longer.

Thank you 2na. Cool thing is that we have a special loaf of bread for dinner today. Laura, our neighbor the one that made the squash flour from that crazy zucchini and acorn squash mashup baked us a loaf using the flour, its really good.

I have been contemplating my garden options for next year, I might move to a different unit soon so it would change a few things but I have better options about how I garden here. There are new managers and both are more reasonable in that issue. All of this because I started complaining about things. My friend, the property's maint. super is retiring next week but the new guy looks to be a better manager so I'm happy with that, he used to work in the park too so we have common acquaintances too. And he's a Democrat! Haven't met the new property manager yet.
Have a great day and congrats, 50 is a milestone of note.

(12,582 posts)Its so wonderful that you take the time for yourselves, for your day.
Our anniversary is today but were in so much Christmas stuff (performances, charity work, etc) that we dont take as much time as we should. Like tonight is our department party, kind of mandatory that we put our faces in. I probably should have picked a better date when we planned our wedding 😂

(29,406 posts)When going for marital longevity, maybe it helps to start on the early side, like you did -
. You picked the right person the first time. Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was almost 31 when my husband and I tied the knot, and he was 36. Wed known each other for 4 years by that time. I proposed to him not quite 2 years into our relationship, and he turned me down. He didnt pick the right person the first time, and was definitely suffering from the once burned, twice shy syndrome. 2 years later, when it was his idea, we finally got it done. Hes lucky Im a very patient person -
We have every intention of making the 50 year mark, and hopefully beyond.

(7,025 posts)and select Presidential greeting. You will get a nice personal letter congratulating you and your bride of 50 and a picture of Joe.
It's always great when I hear of others that stood by each other in good times and bad and cared enough to tough it out. Think back of the wonderful memories from the past and the thoughts of the future. Then look up and listen to Karen Carpenter's son "We've only just begun" and remember
I think of this as the evening of our lives together, and yes, we smile, still give each other a kiss every night not just as a married couple but as equal partners, lovers, friends and confidants.
I'm sure it is the same for you.
And feel luck and proud that you have discovered the joys and pleasures and shared the disappointments with someone for that long. And pause a little for those unable or unwilling to have been there and done that.
Hope to hear from you again celebrating your 75th.
