(7,309 posts)I always say, "Punch me in the face with truth before you stab me in the back with lies." If you are not a monogamous person, it's ok. Quit trying to be something you aren't. And quit dragging others along with your lies and betrayal. You hurt those you say you love.

Over the years, I have had to jump through many bureaucratic hoops, give up a lot materially, and have been terrified twice that cancer would take her away from me. There has been a lot of sweat and odds-beating along the way. As you have surmised, it was worth it and then some. If you were to look for an accurate definition of "useless, worthless wreck of a person," I think that "me without her" would fit as well as anything else one might come up with.

(60,182 posts)Albeit one who fell into an extraordinary series of happenstances, and had the presence of mind to take advantage of them. The last thing on her mind that summer evening in 1974, when we met, was that less than 21 years later, Id be introducing her to POTUS in Washington.
She would have just said that whatever prompted such a ridiculous notion, she wanted no part of it, because it would subject the user to arrest and incarceration😄

It takes a conscious effort to step outside the familiar perspective & associations, and it is something one has to be aware of.
