(18,572 posts)... my favorite shows were the war ones, comedic or serious. Loved "Combat." Didn't understand until I was much older that it was really an anti-war show. Liked "Hogan's Heroes" and "McHale's Navy."
I suppose if one considers "The Flintstones" a situation comedy (which it kinda was), it would be on the list also.
"Car 54, Where are You?" wasn't a sitcom, but I watched every episode of its all-too-brief run, and can still sing the intro verbatim.

I was a little terror in school cause I tried to be a mini Van Dyke...lol

(5,960 posts)I became the class clown due to Dick Van Dyke and it was a lifesaver.
I was a very small kid and got brutally picked on...until I began to prat fall and make people laugh.
'Some' teachers actually thought it was funny...others not so much.
Needless to say, I got to call the Principle by his first name when in his office...

I watched because of the girl I had the crush on in the show. Notice how they're all brunettes? Even on black and white tv it was always the brunettes I liked.

I was nine years old 1959, and that was about when I used to watch William Bendix in the title role of Chester A. Riley. "What a revoltin' development this is!" was his signature phrase. I didn't know it at the time, but before I was born, in the 1940s and I think in the late 1930s too, The Life of Riley was a popular radio show. They play that radio show often now on Sirius/XM satellite radio and I listen to it in my car. A blast from the past. Some years past, I used to have a cat I named Riley because I thought he was living the life of Riley, so he must be Riley!
Other TV sitcoms I really loved: The Beverly Hillbillies, Gilligan's Island, I Dream of Jeannie, I Love Lucy, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Leave it to Beaver. One thing I always wonder about the Cleaver household: You can tell from the opening montage of shots of that house that their house is a big house. That house has at least five bedrooms. So WHY, I always wonder, do Wally and the Beaver have to share a bedroom?

(76,706 posts)But, I became nuts about it when watching in syndication while in my 30s.
WGN TV ran episodes from 5 to 6 each weekday morning, and I'd watch them before I got ready for work.
It was then I started seeing how terrifically it was cast. And, they matured the characters over time, so even though it was just a silly sitcom, we cared about each of the people. Most went beyond the cartoon stage.
My wife actually bought me an AG Show Trivia Board Game, she knew I was so hooked on the show.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Topper_(TV_series)Neal was the perpetually drunk Saint Bernard
Ann Jefferies and Robert Sterling portrayed the ghosts. They were married in real life.
Topper was Leo G. Carroll ("Wuthering Heights" ).
His wife was Lee Patrick ("Auntie Mame" )

Loved seeing how it started. I was very young when I watched this. Seeing George and Marion on the screen gave me a positive feeling about ghosts.

(72,188 posts)Watching that show must have been a breath of fresh air for my mother, because her father, my grandfather, was Archie Bunker, only without the loveableness.
I used to watch re-runs of "That Girl" back in the 90's. I was strangely enchanted by that late 60's-early 70's vibe, the clothes, the hair, and the aura of wit, humor, and optimism that have since been drained from our country
