I'm sure if I had eaten it slower it would have been delicious.

(733 posts)Two months ago I had a sharp pain in my left side that got me to the ER. The doctor thought that it might be a kidney stone but the X-ray and CT scan that she ordered showed something else: stage one renal carcinoma on the bottom of my right kidney and a shaded area in the bottom of my left lung. I quickly had a biopsy of my left lung, which was benign, and successful surgery to remove the kidney cancer. It seems that the pain I had that fateful day might have been from a rib that I had broken some eight years ago. But for that, I would have gone on with my life, congratulating myself for my good health. The message that I have for others as you get to be older is to get a CT scan of your body just to make sure that you are really OK.

(2,489 posts)for not hesitating to get yourself thoroughly checked out. Too many docs just ignore complaints from Seniors like we are all just narcissistic hypochondriacs.

(733 posts)It was a five-hour operation. He released me the next morning. Five days later Im still fairly sore from my incisions but starting to feel normal again.
I could attribute my quick recovery to my otherwise great health but I know that his great skill as a surgeon was also responsible for it too.
My urologist told me that I was extremely lucky to discover the carcinoma when I did, when I had a 97% chance that everything would be removed.

(2,489 posts)I had to take into account that I was born in a Central Standard time zone, and give myself that extra hour of being 75.
Thanks to all of you for the well wishes and fun conversations on the thread. It has been an important part of my birthday enjoyment.
I also had a very decadent meal of filet mignon and garlic mashed potatoes. There are also red velvet cupcakes but we'll save those for tomorrow.
But I do love DU and I am so very happy to have spent the last six or seven years here, mostly lurking. It's been a great ride and I will stay on it forever, that is, my forever, however long that lasts.

(2,489 posts)was born 3 days after I was. As my mom was leaving the hospital with me, her mom was coming in to give birth to her!
Spring of 1947 was a busy season for hanky panky.
