I wanted to add:

My mom passed away about a month ago, we were living together these last almost eleven years. And for the last few, every Sunday we would peruse Sunday Lolcats. It became our tradition, and brought both of us joy and a shared experience.

I miss her; not because she was a perfect mother or a saint or whatever. We were a part of each other’s lives. And now a big solid chunk of my life is gone and it feels like I have this huge gaping wound.

So, thank you Salmon, for giving us you gift of your humor and your “squee.” I can’t tell you how much this has meant to me.

I will, of course, still read and enjoy this special feature. Just now there is that part of me that will always be thinking “Hey, Mom, what did you think?”

I wish I could say something magical to take your pain away. From experience, the passage of time will ease your heartbreak and turn into warm memories. Truly.

i know it can be a very difficult adjustment.

my mom and i had been living together forever when she passed. i noticed her absence at every turn, with the day to day routines (what do you feel like having for dinner? should i make 6 or 8 cups of coffee?) (we were big coffee drinkers) (i'm gonna lay down for awhile. call me in an hour.) there were hundreds of little things and constant reminders. turns out she was my best, closest friend.

it took me years to adapt but i think that was more the exception than the rule.

i knew i probably needed grief counseling but couldn't afford it. i went through 8weeks of grief counseling when my dad died 20 years before and that helped tremendously.

perhaps that would be something for you to consider.

wishing you peace and comfort during this difficult time.
