Its insane to buy an appliance and then be told you must pay extra for it to actually perform correctly.

(18,477 posts)2. In 1973, we moved into an apartment with all-new appliances...
... in 2016, when I moved out, the refrigerator was still working. Had to have one part replaced the whole time.
The electric stove lasted about twenty years, then the heating element died, and by that time one couldn't get a replacement part, so they gave us a new stove.

(17,552 posts)3. I had a Sears toaster that made it from 1966 to about 2015.
A new one now has a life expectancy of 6-8 years.
My mother's Kenmore washer and dryer from the 50s were still working fine at the time of her death in 1991.
There are still well made products, but they do seem harder to come by.
