(31,876 posts)one hose is the air supply... the other is strictly exhaust.
There is one way valve at the mouth piece to prevent water in the exhaust hose from entering your mouth.
so... when the hero or the villain cuts the hose with their handy dive knife, a lot of bubbles would come out dramatically and the actor would immediately act like they were drowning and head to the surface, taking them out of the fight.
All done without endangering the stunt divers during the action sequence.
Brother Buzz
(39,864 posts)Mike Nelson was always cutting the bad guy's single hose. That, and pulling out the mouthpiece or ripping of their dive mask generally took them out of the fight.

either can be used to extend your air time underwater.
I was trained by an ex navy seal... and in the final pool session he would take us down to the bottom (15 feet or so) blindfolded... and then he and his assistants would mess with our dive equipment. weight belts, BCs, air tanks, etc.
the final check out dive was done in a muddy lake in November... and we had to do a free ascent from 60 feet. That is no longer allowed for any scuba training.
On the other hand... I never felt like I couldn't handle an emergency under water.

Brother Buzz
(39,864 posts)GiqueCee
(4,145 posts)... carried a different caliber than the "mare's leg" Winchester was chambered for, probably because they looked better on camera. Back in the day, it was common practice for one's Winchester and Colt Peacemaker (Single Action Army) to be chambered for the same round. That was true right up to WW II, when a captain's Thompson submachine gun fired the same .45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) round as their .45 semiautomatic sidearm.
FUN FACT: McQueen was one of the first TV stars to make the transition to movies.
A few little tidbits of perfectly worthless information for you! You're welcome.
Brother Buzz
(39,864 posts)GiqueCee
(4,145 posts)... back then, seemed like nearly every western hero had a novelty firearm. But I've read that sawed-off long guns were common in the real west, though they were worthless for long range accuracy. Scatterguns sawed-off shotguns were commonly used by stagecoach guards because they could spray a wide pattern of buckshot, even one pellet of which could kill a man, or at least ruin his day. A 10-gauge could wreak some serious havoc on careless highwaymen. And the shorter barrels were easier, and safer, to maneuver in close quarters.
So anyway, I'm inclined to think that the term, "mare's leg", may well have had it roots in reality.
Brother Buzz
(39,864 posts)Hitch's weapon of choice is an 8-gauge double barrel shotgun.
Everett Hitch : [narrating] Like my father, I'd been West Point, and I was good at soldiering. But soldiering didn't allow for much expansion of the soul. So after the War Between the States and a year of fighting Indians, I turned in my commission and rode away to see how much I could expand it. First time I met Virgil Cole was when I and my eight-gauge backed him up in a showdown he was having with some drunken mountain men. Virgil asked me right there on the spot if I'd care to partner up with him and his peacekeeping business. Which is why I was with him now, and why I still carry the eight-gauge. We'd been keeping the peace together for the last dozen years or so. And as we looked down on a town called Appaloosa, I had no reason to doubt we'd be doing just that for the foreseeable future.
GiqueCee
(4,145 posts)... but, no, not a .38. That's a small pistol round. The Winchester was chambered for a .44-40 cartridge. The bandolier was packed full of .45-70s. They were slightly larger in caliber (the diameter of the slug) and they had more black powder behind them (70 grains, as opposed to 40). To the best of my knowledge, there were no handguns chambered for that bullet; it would have kicked like a mule going uphill.
As you may have already guessed, I have some experience with firearms.

(39,864 posts)It was a brand spanking new city, formed when the railroad came through in 1880. It's population hasn't grown appreciably in nearly a century and half, and by one measure the population might have doubled when the Japanese were interned there during the Second World War.

because he thinks Walt Jr. is smoking pot & that showing him the "tweaker motel" might get him to stop smoking pot.
Hank thinks pot is a "gateway drug" to more dangerous drugs like meth.
(Walter Jr. wasn't smoking pot)
What was the name of the motel?

The episode opens with a tribal police officer driving in his 4 X 4 police vehicle (Bronco or Blazer maybe)
He gets a call on the police radio:
1) What was his call sign?
2) What was his first name?
3) What was the name of the lady he was told to go check on to see if she was alight? (answered)
4) He has a little sign hanging from his rear view mirror. On one side it says "Homeland Security" On the other side is a photo of four Native Americans standing with rifles. Complete the caption reading "Fighting _____ Since ____" (answered)

Dan would often cook up to fried potatoes with onions and would share them with his roommates.

The bullet had grazed the bottom of the board at a slight upper trajectory that raised the board. The bullet entered the wall and the board dropped down covering up the bullet hole. These were supposed to be true stories from the LAPD, the names were changed to protect the innocent they said. Sargent Joe Friday was cleared.
