Do you have a rice cooker?

That and a big bag of rice has always been my food security and comfort.

In the bad decade of my late teens and early twenties I sometimes didn't even have that.

I might choose a microwave oven over a rice cooker today, but back then microwave ovens were very expensive and weighed about eighty pounds. They were definitely not the sort of thing you could simply toss in a duffel bag with the rest of your stuff if you had to leave in a hurry.

My wife prefers a kitchen with full size American style appliances but has appreciated my frugal ways in times we've had no money.
