(7,080 posts)friend to Vidal Sassoons Salon. They gave me the classic short Sassoon cut and it was fabulous. Across from me a temperamental male stylist was putting blonde streaks on a woman with long hair. Halfway done and he storms out of the room! I couldnt believe it and nor could she. We laughed all the way back to Milwaukee. Fun

(29,796 posts)...for many years. It required a very skilled stylist to do it properly. When we lived in Maryland, I went thru about 10 stylists until I found someone who could do it consistently. A lot of stylists claimed they could do it, but they were wrong. My hair was very thick at that time, and it took at least 20 minutes with the my hairdryer and 3 different sizes of round hair brushes to get it right. And, it didn't typically hold up well overnight, so styling it was a daily task.
I still like the look, and always notice someone who has a well done wedge.

(6,472 posts)When I was a tyke.
When I was a teen and decided to cut off all my long hair, my mom asked the night before my salon appointment if she could experiment with a quick shag cut technique shed seen in a magazine. It was a terrible awful mess, but I went out on a date that night, rather enjoying my boyfriends sweet and tactfully unspoken dismay.

(14,307 posts)It was easy to sleep on them unless she had pulled a few hairs tighter than the rest and they would scream out for me to release them. In my grogginess I would untie that rag, ease the tension and then re-roll and tie. She would unroll all the rags at breakfast, hovering over me while I ate and then let the curls rest a while before brushing them out. My hair was mid-back length. I got a few matching barrettes carefully placed and the good old hair spray to help seal the waves and curls.
As I grew older I let my hair grow really long and sometimes ironed it, so it was the opposite of before.

(29,796 posts)...my mom would cut my bangs really short, at least half-way up my forehead, and I hated it. I have a 3 inches of forehead, and 1 inch of bangs is simply not enough. Once I was old enough to have a say in it, I've never had short bangs again. If they not brushing my eyebrows, I'm not happy.
One of the stylists my mom took me to always seemed to cut them particularly short, and every time we'd come home from an appointment with Frank, my dad would say, "Well, hi there, shorty." Every damn time. He thought he was being funny. I did not

(13,888 posts)My hair was naturally curly, so having long hair didn't really work for me. But I could just let it go wild, and I did. That photo hangs in our bedroom, reminding me of our optimism and my (once upon a time) hair line.

(25,126 posts)Back then, I worked in a music office and the boss insisted that I wear suits and ties. I had a girlfriend who wanted me to grow out my hair so I had a stylist make the front look business-like and the ponytail grew down to my shoulder blades. I kept it neat so my boss wouldnt get on me for it.
After several years, a new opportunity presented itself so I cut it off. I got the job and was surprised to discover that the new company didnt have any formal appearance rules! Oh, well. Its easier to wash shorter hair!

(31,279 posts)and I dutifully ratted my hair, in the 70s I wore it long or braided, the 80s saw the shag, in the 90s I started coloring my hair beginning with purple and then moving more to auburn and smooth long style, then I stopped coloring and let it go silver and found stylists who cut it into the wavy/curly style. Right now, I'm in true need of a good cut, and it's what I call Amish, no style in the cut and then wadded into an ugly bun. I do leave off the silly hat affair. I hope to get that together soon. It's been difficult with distance and time.
