(28,836 posts)The very first point is whining that there's too much diversity.
Should we really be giving attention to an author whose initial point is complaining that there's too much diversity in commercials?
I think not.
Oh, and it doesn't get any better. Second point is whining about the treatment of white males and how they're "feminized", then there's some complaining that social issues are addressed. Oh, the horror!
He also links to one of his own articles, titled, "What happened to white people in commercials?" Ah, that old classic, white male grievance.
Racism, sexism, transphobia, and more!
Maybe the author will eventually make a salient point, though I have my doubts, because it's buried behind a mountain of right-wing pablum.

(6,472 posts)This is a gateway article. Just beyond this is to a yawning pit of hate. Sorry this was posted here.

(5,455 posts)the most watched commercials on TV were funny or clever like the Reeses peanut butter cup ads. The old alka seltzer ad comes to mind 🙂 now they are boring or song and dance routines. So silly. The Medicare Advantage commercials are the worst
Edited to add: I enjoy seeing the diversity in advertisements. It's reality.

(9,227 posts)My biggest beef is when the same commercial is run twice, back to back...as if you didn't get the message the first time. Another beef I have is when I change channels to duck a commercial, only to find its on that channel also. The fuckers even time it to be almost at the same point in the ad.
And then there is the worst commercial of all time IMHO....Kars 4 Kids.

(25,746 posts)The idea is to make a product/candidate stick into your mind, so when you need to make a choice, the advertised product/candidate pops into your head.
Why bother being clever, when it is so much easier to be loud, offensive and rude? Any idiot can do it.

(9,741 posts)Even with the live news, I'll often pause it for a call or something, and I get to Fast-Forward over a bunch of commercials that way too. But even so, there are some commercials, like that infernal Karz4Kidz torture, that I will mute or switch channels away from until it's passed.

(13,386 posts)Too much conservative bullshit in the article like whining about diversity and white males whining that they are the butt of a joke.
And to many republican trash responding to it.
Had to stop reading the comments nauseating.
Dont post conservative talking points dressed up as a commentary about ads.
