(43,244 posts)There is healthy population of shovelnose sturgeon in the Wabash river and very good eating. The Indiana state record shovelnose sturgeon is only 14 pounds 8 ounces. We do have rock sturgeon in lake Michigan and they grow up to six and half feet long and weigh over 200 pounds. Out west in the Columbia River they have White sturgeon and they grow more than ten feet long and weigh hundreds of pounds.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
