4. He's stupid only in the sense of being ignorant and narrow-minded, but he does have an instinct

for demagoguery. He knows what pushes the buttons of other ignorant, mean people. Don't assume that because he couldn't find Ukraine on a map he can't figure out how to scare and screw people. Do not make the naive mistake of thinking that because he's stupid he's not dangerous.

8. I tend to think he has had and actually paid attention to a little instruction in propaganda

...probably a seminar or two half a century ago, and he probably felt like he had been given the secrets of Heaven itself when he understood the power of those manipulation techniques. I think he actually practiced them and they have become habits which he went on to use regularly and instinctively. His problem is that now he is coming apart so badly he can no longer even execute these long ago practiced techniques. He is not able to attract new followers, he is bleeding old ones who gradually come to their senses, and he is too insensible himself to understand that situation.

And even if that happens, there really isn't anyone waiting in the wings who can rally his followers. They will stay home or vote for even wackier whack jobs, and the R sacrificial replacement will go down in flames in November.
