Hoopla - App

I highly recommend this of you have a local library that offers it free of charge, if you have a library card.

You not only get access to borrow e books and audio books, but can download movies, and even past season episodes of some BBC TV shows as well as other countries for a set time. They also have offerings that they call binge passes which include videos on things like documentaries on various countries histories, foreign language classes, art classes, etc.

When you're on a limited budget it helps. I love listening to audio books to keep my mind focused. If I am doing a boring repetitive task like washing dishes my mind tends to overwhelm me with my anxious thoughts about the present or future, or travel back to the past hurts. With the audio books I am able to do what I need to do without being distracted by my anxiety. If I had to pay for them all or a subscription to Audible I'd be broke. 😁

Oh also if you are resident of anywhere in NewvYork State you can get a free digital library card to borrow digital materials from the Brooklyn Public Library. I love libraries. I donate to my local one once a year.

[We are pretty lucky where I live because the local school district here has a budget line included for our local library every year. So far it always get passed despite some gripes. They also have a lot of community support because the director has gone out of her way to make sure it provides additional community support and programs for all age groups. They particularly helped out during the pandemic using virtual platforms like Zoom and FB to give people a chance to keep learning and socializing safely. The director said she and the rest of the staff wanted to do their part so the community would feel less isolated through it.
