The fix is easy! The slats are wider at the top so just have the child stand up and the head comes out easily.

Tie a loop of rope between 2 stiles, only 1 of which is by the boy's head. Insert winding stick in the loop and wind it up until the stiles are spread enough for the boy to pull out.
