(32,265 posts)My son has inherited the original game we had back in the 60's. The box is pretty beat up and some of the pieces have been lost over the years, but his kids still enjoy using the old tokens and cards when they play the new edition of the game.

(41,098 posts)The pirates game was the best game ever. Parker Bros I believe. It was a friend's game, not mine. Years later I looked for one but games of the same name aren't the same.
Today I keep Snake Oil Salesman in my truck. It's a great game for a big group of people cuz it's easy to learn & it moves fast & it's funny as hell. If you're a good bullshitter you'll be good at this game.

(26,464 posts)Played checkers with my older brother and had no skill at offensive strategy. But I was so good at defensive strategy that the games dragged on and on even though I'd lose in the end. Sometimes my brother threw the game to me just to get it over with, so I guess that was a strategy of sorts, although not planned.
He would not play Scrabble with me because I read a lot, had a better vocabulary, and was a good speller.

(5,409 posts)We had epic, often nasty, battles when I was in college.
Ill never forgot one morning, during an exceedingly long round, we had to stop to go to class. We took the board, pieces still in place, over to a friends Moms house. Johns Mom was the only person deemed trustworthy enough to watch over the board for the day (John was already long defeated and relegated to beer and snack retrieval duty). We slow rolled across town at 20 mph while he and a witness sat in the back and carefully held the board so no pieces slid out of place. It never even occurred to our sleep-deprived, trash-talking, overly-competitive, kind bud-addled, dumbass brains to just write everything down.
Never Again!
RIP Nathan. We had fun and you are missed.
