(8,952 posts)John Hiatt wrote it and it's on his Slow Turning Album. Buddy Guy covered it and had a hit with it and plays it at most of his shows. Buddy Guy does not do many covers, but many consider it his signature song.

(40,409 posts)The prodigal said, "I searched for true religion
But no faith and no peace could I find
Until I came to a little place called Bakersfield, that eased my troublin' mind"
That's why I believe that, I believe that I will go back home
And I believe that, I believe that I will go back home
Well, I believe that, I believe that I will go back home
And be a servant of the Lord
Well I wandered into a tavern where a music band was playin'
Now, the steel guitar rang out so sweet, I feel that I was prayin'
And I asked a comely waitress, is this a new teaching
Yeah, she said there is no God but God, and Ralph Mooney is his name
I said, let me empty your ashtray, Mr. Mooney
And if the drunks interfere I'll be sad
But just as long as you sit there on the bandstand
And play your guitar like Buddha, I'll be glad

(77,277 posts)Guitars players were frustrated for years because they couldn't get that riff to sound right, even though the notes are obvious.
It's because that's not one guitar playing chords. It's 3 separate guitar tracks playing the notes separately. Because of that, there's no phase interaction between the strings as on a single guitar.
There is literally no way to get that riff to sound like it does here with only one person playing.

And, you're on to something about a guest lead guitar, but that's not Duane. (Who did play on the Dominoes album.)
That's Steven Stills.

(1,194 posts)We need software that enables debm55 to automatically create a YouTube or Spotify playlist of the songs DU identifies. Debm55 would have to curate so crackpot entries would not make the playlist. I will submit 'Itsy Bitsy Spider' (down came the rain...) as an example of a song that might be considered crackpot. Ask yourself, 'Should it make the playlist?'

(29,803 posts)Rainy Night in Georgia" is a song written by Tony Joe White in 1967 and popularized by R&B vocalist Brook Benton in 1970. It was originally released by White on his 1969 album, Continued, on Monument Records, shortly before Benton's hit single was issued.

If you didn't care what happened to me
And I didn't care for you
We would zigzag our way through the boredom and pain
Occasionally glancing up through the rain
Wondering which of the buggers to blame
And watching for pigs on the wing

There's sunshine, it's T-shirt time.
Spring is in its prime, but I just climb
Up the wall
If the wind blows and the rain shows,
Then I won't close my windows
Up at all
It's hard to say all's well when I've been left high and dry
If it rains enough perhaps I won't be tempted to cry
