The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI've been trying to find posts from a DU member I haven't seen in awhile
I hesitate to post the username, as its possible the person is still amongst us , using a different name. Ill just leave this clue:
I dont drink with you
Ill further add that the only reason I thought about this person is that Plano, Texas came up in a discussion, and thats where he lived. Ill also add this persons outstanding fishing skills. Hooked many an unwary fishie, that one.
Google is disappointing in this regard. I found one archived thread, from an earlier iteration of DU. Only one. Was it really that long ago that giving it a goog would pull up every single post from someone using a unique identifier?
If anyone should be so inclined, Id like to hear about a better search engine. Ive used archive.org, but a good many links are no longer valid.
Think. Again.

(29,881 posts)Even a truncated version brought up nothing.
Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)...but perhaps they were "removed" by the MIRT team or something?

(29,881 posts)Thing is, I cant find a single viable link to a profile, so its like the person never existed.
Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)...for any possible responses from them to any of your posts?
Maybe you can track your previous conversations with them that way and then click on their username?

(114,667 posts)Sometimes Google will find a reference to the name if someone in a thread mentions them--even if that person is not posting, but I guess that they are gone. If you can remember a time period and a major issue that they might have posted about, perhaps using the advanced search to find that thread will still show their reply...
There are several former posters about which I feel similarly. I would love to communicate with them, but alas...

(29,881 posts)Its not like I want to reconnect or anything. Most of our encounters were heavily laden with sarcasm, and I wondered what he got out of his espousal of RW rhetoric. Personally, I think he was a high-functioning troll who liked to stir the merde.

(33,745 posts)A lot of threads came up mentioning the quoted thread title, and within other famous DU threads, discussing the person.
I started with a thread from 2014 titled "Some of you have been on this site for over a decade.'' It was easy to follow a trail of DU links. Saved a few threads if you want them.
Think. Again.

(77,266 posts)MIRT can only ban members with under a hundred posts. After that, it's up to the admins.
I'm guessing by the description in the OP that this poster was over a hundred.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
