'I didn't believe it': Reaction to discovery of woman living in Midland store sign

MIDLAND, Mich. (WJRT) - People in Midland who frequent the Northwest Plaza are surprised and curious about how a woman was living inside the Family Fare sign.

The discovery was made in late April as contractors were doing work on the roof of the Family Fare store in Midland.
.....
It was all there, inside the Family Fare's peaked sign. The woman had what she needed to live, including a computer, printer, coffee maker and even a houseplant. There is an outlet on the roof so she could plug in for electricity.

The Midland Police Department says the woman was cooperative and agreed to leave when she was found living in the sign on April 23.

Homeless person had snuck into the back room and was living above the liquor cooler. He'd come out during the night and steal food and booze. It took a couple months for them to figure out why the alarm was going off in the middle of the night with no signs of break-in, and why our food and liquor inventories were off.

If only those determined to prosecute and jail the homeless--incurring $$$ in legal fees to defend such policies--would instead try to work towards even minimalist, but rapidly available safe housing in areas accessible to jobs.

While those interviewed seem more curious than belligerent towards the woman, it is interesting that though the man who described her as the "ski mask lady" had no evidence of her having posed a threat or committed a crime, had repeatedly contacted the police after seeing her. (Yeah, I know "suspicious" behavior, but still... )

We can’t give people free houses, then every lazy person who doesn’t want to work will want a free house!

(Totally ignoring the fact that this lady had a job)
