The gelatin-lens swooning love interest side plot with Gollum might be interesting

There were 3 books that make up the trilogy, but there are connected story lines in the appendices in the last pages of The Return of The King.

The Silmarillion
The Hobbit
Fellowship of the Ring
The Two Towers
Return Of The King

The film stories may be based on the first one.

JRR had an entire world and mythology in his head — Creation, gods, elves, the fight between good and evil throughout the long ages. He wrote and wrote for decades — it’s just that as a full-time professor he didn’t have time to finish everything. Hobbits don’t figure much into the Great Story Arc.

I inherited The Children of Hurin and The Silmarillion from a friend. Couldn’t get into Silmarillion, and Hurin left me cold (literally, as in my mind it was always gray and snowing). I know there’s a few more around my house, but frankly, like most people, the Hobbits draw me back. I agree with Sam Gamgee that we little people weren’t made to live on the heights for all our days.

If Peter Jackson or anyone else chooses (and I know there was meant to be a series on Netflix or something), there’s a superabundance of backstory to draw on. Christian Tolkein died in 2020 at the age of 96.

Andy Serkis (Gollum) will be starring in and directing that one. Which means it should be good, as he is a master storyteller.

I didn’t really care for Rings of Power because the writing wasn’t good and it kinda ignored Tolkien lore (I don’t care about black elves and hobbits, that’s irrelevant to me). But Peter Jackson has a good track record.

Literally no villain (or anti-villain) has ever benefited from a prequel film ponderously exploring their origins.

It might depend on on who"s searching, and when.

I don't have a real interest in seeing Semgol's descent into Gollum.

I got the hardback of The Silmarillion the first day it hit the NYC's bookstores! 😄
I"d been waiting a couple of decades for it!

Now the second time I couldn't get through it, I got bored. But first time was exciting!

I'd love to see the raising of

Bilbo's poem: Eärendil Was A Mariner.
Oh, the visuals of that poem/story! Stunning, mysterious, magical, majestic! 🧡
