This is because (1) this really needs to be done and (2) I'm not set up to do it, nor do I plan to become set up to do it.
Here's the pitch: Home baking is a huge industry. I mean, MASSIVE. The attraction of filling your home with delicious smells by baking sweet treats is undeniable. Almost everyone who has a kitchen bakes goodies in it on occasion, and some people have taken it to a fine art.
Legal cannabis is sweeping the nation. There are 24 states where the leaf is completely legal for any adult use. Add to that the states where it's legal for medicinal use and the ones where it's been decriminalized, add in the "completely illegal" states next to legal states where the cops just don't bother with grass unless you're dealing it, and...well...anyone who really wants some weed and can't get any just isn't trying hard enough.
The problem with home baking from individual ingredients is that you've got to carefully measure out each one, which takes a while. Many decades ago the food industry made it easier to bake at home by inventing baking mixes. In a nicely-packaged box you will find all the ingredients for a cake, brownies or whatever you want properly proportioned and blended. Simply add a few liquid ingredients, pour into a pan, bake and...hey presto, goodies!
There is a very long history of people baking cannabis into sweet treats. We've all heard of hash brownies, right? But the problem is, if you make them you basically need to have access to a long-term head who has done it before and knows how to prepare the weed to be added to the batter. The modern marijuana connoisseur may not have access to an old hippie to show him or her the secrets to nirvana, so...there's a need that's currently unfulfilled.
The business idea is very simple: edibles mixes. They'd be just like regular brownie or cake mix, but they tell you how much weed to put in and how to prepare it to be added to the batter.
What you will need:
Some mix for the product you want to have baked. This is sold in 50-pound bags at restaurant supply stores. It has the Nutrition Facts statement on the bag so you won't have to pay for an analysis of your product. Since weed has no nutritional value and you're going to replace part of the fat the recipe calls for with a different fat, this won't change.
A little experimentation to determine how much oil needs to be subtracted from the recipe and replaced with cannabis-infused butter.
Packaging. Get boxes printed up with the instructions and with photos of young people having fun on the front.
A name for your product. I suggest "Weedies" but that may already be taken.
A particle filler. This is the machine you use to put the product in the box. They sell these on Amazon.
Deals with dispensaries and an online presence to sell the stuff.
A wheelbarrow to make hauling the money to the bank more efficient.

(24,906 posts)One of the things it tells is how to make marijuana butter. It's very easy to do. Then you take any mix that calls for butter (our favorite is cookies) and use the marijua butter. The best part of it is, you don't even need good weed. I know a few growers and they give my bags of the trimmings for free. You would have to smoke a ridiculous amount of this stuff (they call it "shake"
to get a good hight so in today's market it isn't really market-worthy.
My wife eats the cookies to help with arthritis pain. She can't smoke weed because of asthma. She got off prescription pain meds years ago. I don't have any pain issues or asthma, so I smoke some weed or eat the cookies just to make the music sound better.

You extract the THC from the cannabis. I usually do that by making cannabutter, but there are other methods using oil or other "fats". Also alcohol tinctures, though that is not as versatile for cooking purposes. Some people use hash. Generally, cooking with cannabis means using infused butter. I make great cookies with my butter! I also keep some at hand for general use in place of regular butter.
One of the key aspects of making butter and cooking with it is temperature control. If it gets too hot, the THC is reduced. So slow and low is preferred when cooking with cannabutter, adjust your recipes accordingly.
I use a crock-pot for 20 hours at 200 degrees (NEVER above 210! I use a cooking thermometer with a temperature alarm), stirring frequently. It's basically what I call the "modified Samuel Jackson" method (not exactly, but very close) based on an old and iconic internet meme someone made that follows the preferred method... Enjoy!
