So my kitty was breathing funny, so I took him to the vet, about 5,000 bucks later I find that he has either Lung cancer and is breathing @ 50% capacity OR a slim chance it could be a fungal infection. I'm treating him for a fungal infection Just in case.
Anyways, I bought a used one off of Marketplace for 150$ , it barely works and emits a loud buzzer sound, I duck taped the buzzer and have it in my basement. It is unreliable and I tried repairing it. So I decided I'll buy a better one. Saw another one on Marketplace ,the guy said it was new and wanted 300$ for it. I met him at a Taco bell, paid him 300 bucks, got the Machine home, Plugged it in, and got a low oxygen level warning. I changed the filter and tried to open it to replace the inside filter and see if I can find out whats wrong with it. But, it has proprietary screws in it in very deep holes that I cant remove.
I'm going to run it to my shop later and drill out the screws so I can open it.
So now I have 500$ in useless Oxygen Concentrators both sold by assholes on Marketplace and my poor cat gets to suffer for it.
New ones are outrageously priced and you need a prescription to buy them.
So now I get to search high and low for a third used one and hope I get lucky.
He is a good boy and I cried when I got the news about him. I just want his long goodbye to be as comfortable as i can make it for him
This is close to what I made for my kitty except mine has a door he can enter and exit through when he wants

(4,668 posts)You are doing all you can to help him breathe more easily, and for his last days be comforting and easy as possible on him. I hope that you have a breakthrough in finding an oxygen machine that works optimally. Sending prayers and good vibes to you both.

(9,320 posts)You can rent a concentrator, but you need a prescription for that too, and the rentals are not that cheap.
I had good luck with a reconditioned oe - it didn't last forever, but it did last way longer than 2 months I found it on ;ine, but not at Marketplace - googled and found a company that reconditons DME. (Today I would use DuckDuckGo)But of course shipping takes time too. I hope you don't need this information - that your own skill handles the problem. And much love and pets to your furbaby.

(589 posts)I will of course keep looking for one.
The guy is acting normal, he's eating. If you didn't see his 40 breaths a minute he looks and acts fine.
Thank you for your input

(24,742 posts)the appropriate medication for a fungus, but even the standard medication would probably improve the breathing.

(27,577 posts)It's so hard to see your baby suffering and knowing he has a short time left with you. I hope all your current issues can be resolved and he at least has some comfort in his final days.
I am also hopeful it is just an infection, and he will soon recover.
Hugs to you both. I know what you're going through.
I never rooted for an infection so bad in my life.
