I am offended by the concept of a "Rainbow Bridge" where pets cross over when they die. I believe it is childish and perpetuates ignorance to use this term.

(35,176 posts)really that thing but it is a place to rest our grief.
Offended? Then stay away from threads that mention it. If it provides comfort to anyone then what is the darn harm? I am not too crazy about it nor am I fond of the term Fur Babies but others love it or rely on the comfort of a bridge to a wonderful resting place. Let them have that, it is hard enough to get through.

(2,317 posts)But someone mourning a pet has never been one. Weve had a few loved family members cross that rainbow bridge over the years and its never an easy thing.

(113,973 posts)is "silly" to you. I was prepared to come and welcome you as a new poster, but find your post extremely unkind and comes across really badly for someone so new to DU.

(89 posts)Sometimes, it's just best not to say anything. Death and mourning customs differ between every living person. Maybe you could hang out at the playground and tell all the little kids that Santa, the Tooth Fairy, and the Easter Bunny are all not real.

(1,172 posts)He posted a similarly unkind comment to a member who posted that they had just lost their pet. I am blocking this person and advise others to do so.

(130,538 posts)But don't rain on other people's parades or add to their grief by sneering at an idea just because you don't believe in it. Would you go to a funeral at a church and loudly proclaim to the mourners that their loved one is just dead and there's no such thing as heaven? Pets are family to most of us, and that's basically what you're telling someone who's lost one. Your belief is irrelevant and in the context it's also hurtful, so at least do others the courtesy of keeping it to yourself.
