2. I used to have a black cat, Merlin, who loved "playing pool."

But Merlin had his own version of the game.

After knocking a ball into a corner pocket, he'd race to the side pocket and put his leg and paw into it to block the ball's path to the end of the table underneath. Sometimes he hit it back up to underneath the corner pocket so he could "catch" it again at the side pocket.

To Merlin, the game was all about chasing the rolling balls on the rail underneath the table. Or on top. When I hit a ball, he intercepted it to direct it into the pocket of his choice.

Merlin was a maverick who always set his own rules about everything.
