Out of idle curiosity, I just took a sample online U.S. citizenship test.

50 questions. Scored 100%. Ridiculously easy test. I don't think that it necessarily would be for a new immigrant American. But you hear all the time about these right-wing armchair patriots who are unable to pass the standard citizenship test. And more than ever, I feel justified in my contempt for them. I'll take an immigrant American any day over some flag-flailing, chest-thumping, rah-rah meathead from Squalor Holler or someplace who can't pass a criminally easy citizenship test.

And a test on basic rules of behavior while in session
Failing the tests would not affect your right to serve, but the public would know which members did not know answers to basic questions

Some of them vote Dem but far too many of them, especially those filled with the flag waving type, vote Republican and will never see the error of their ways.

Someone once erected a statue in the harbor of NYC that welcomed immigrants, no matter their condition or their demographics.

Many have taken that welcome (Irish, Italian, northern Europeans, world-wide). But now some invested immigrants (rich folks) want to close the borders to people that aren't like themselves (generally rich, white, northern European, etc.

i did 4 tests and got all questions right. if these are representative of what would be citizens need to know, they should have no problem. it's just the basics.

i do shudder to think how many natural born citizens would flunk that test as the dumbing down of america has been very successful.

i hate republicans

The woman running it asked me if I was a naturalized citizen. When I said no, she told me I was the first "born American" to get all the questions right.

It was also the 1967 - 68 school year - a great year to have a Civics class. My teacher did such a great job of being neutral that it wasn't until several years later I found out he had been one of the movers & shakers in Eugene McCarthy's yanking the local caucuses out from under Hubert Humphrey (remember, this was in Minnesota).

Just this last week I was at DFL meeting at the Junior High I atteneded that year & it dawned on me I was in that building last Wednesday in no small part because of the teacher I had had in that building 56 years ago.

I do not think the simulator works unless you sign up, but the marathon test does. I scored 96 when I took
it. I am sending it to my niece. Her husband is a legal permanent resident, but they are working on getting
his citizenship.

I have been coming to this website since 2008 and always planned to sign up, but something
always seemed to happen that caused me to set signing up aside. This time I actually finished
even though I was interrupted by the niece I mentioned in the post. It is actually calming to find
a site with actual reasonable, rational, logical, thoughtful and sane people.

I did one of the tests in the links in the comments. It was piss easy and I'm pretty sure me having studied US politics at uni had nothing to do with it.

I've also done an Australian one and got a question wrong, so there ya go.

I took my citizenship test 15 or so years ago and passed 100%.

I found it to be quite easy. When I showed co-workers the sample tests that I had in my handbook some just couldn't answer the few questions.

And to think I agonized over taking the test to become a U.S. Citizen.

Things like "Persion gulf," repeated questions, ambiguous answers, etc. make this seem like a good way to judge a general level of knowledge, but I'd be suspicious of prepping for any test using this.

26. I went to a Naturalization Event

In 2016 in Mesa, AZ at the convention center on Center Street. It was really profound. The look of pride on new citizens faces was really touching. I’m not sure how easy the test is, but if I tried to pass a civics exam in, say, Laos I probably wouldn’t pass it. All of my employees at the time spoke either native Spanish, Hebrew or Hungarian. I was the only non-naturalized person there, the only one who didn’t have to learn English, and that experience gave me a hugely expanded appreciation for the 60-some men and women who worked with me. It was humbling. It’s kind of a huge deal and I loved seeing the smiles on their faces as we applauded them as they filed through the hallway full of state flags. Got a link to the exam?
