A mother of two has faced a firestorm of criticism after revealing that she refuses to return her shopping cart.
Leslie Dobson, a Los Angeles-based psychologist and social media creator with over 300,000 followers across platforms, made the divisive post to TikTok on Thursday.
'I'm not returning my shopping cart and you can judge me all you want,' she professed in a clip that has racked up nearly 11 million views.
'I'm not getting my groceries into my car, getting my children into the car and leaving them in the car to go return the cart. So if you're gonna give me a dirty look... f*** off.'

Reminds me of the legendary Lounge Cart Corral battle! 😬

(105,866 posts)that then seems to give them license to take the handicapped spots that others truly need so not a great solution...
But damn, usually there are multiple cart returns scattered around larger parking lots. If I were here I'd park a bit further out but near one--that way she can grab a cart for the kids to go into the store and likewise return it-- after coming back to her car and with her kids still in sight.
Park next to the cart corral. Problem solved.

(3,558 posts)When I see the kids rounding up baskets
they are thrilled to be in the parking lot
and out of the store.
They have told me so, and it's their job.
My first job was bagger, cart duty was actually my favorite part.

I will always try to slip a couple dollars anyway
to the ones insisting on helping me to the car.

(25,321 posts)If you are afraid of your kids being abducted from the parking lot, put the groceries in the car and keep the kids with you while you return the cart, or drive around the parking lot when you first get there until you find a parking place within a space of two of a cart return corral.
I think Id be looking for a different therapist. She sounds like she could use a little attitude adjustment herself.

(816 posts)why did she feel the need to make a TikTok about it? "So if you're gonna give me a dirty look fuck off," great but now you're going to get more dirty looks after publicizing this, so ??? I don't feel either way about this, but I don't know what she was expecting to happen.

(371 posts)Kinda think the psychologist should see a Psychologist to work out her lack of confidence in decision making.
She sounds a bit thin skinned to be so concerned about what others think. But then again I think many social media influencers are just insecure people trying to convince others they should also be insecure.

(25,545 posts)I understand her concern. If she left her kids in the car and walked the cart back to the store, for sure there would be someone waiting at the car to tell her what a terrible mother she is leaving her kids all alone in the car.
No win situation.
However, if there is a designated return cart area within 10 ft, I would think she could manage that safely.

(27,502 posts)but only to the outdoor stalls provided for the purpose. It is usually no more than ten feet from where I've parked my car. I did this when I had children because I knew how to put them in the car and then lock the doors to keep them safe.

(55,825 posts)Why not park closer to the outdoor cart stalls?
Only a few feet away from the car.
But in the event the store is in a dangerous part of town why make a hostile ridiculous post about it?
Accusatory and blaming of others?
Over a grocery cart?

(48,492 posts)Our store has red plastic baskets. Customers take them out of store, to their cars, and dont return them.
Weve lost at least 200 of them. It adds up.

(6,520 posts)BUT I have a lot of trouble walking and standing due to back problems. Once in a while I have to leave a cart because I physically can't manage any more steps. Even then I try to place it next to a tree or curb if possible.

(371 posts)I pull in to the parking lot and say to myself, is this a parking day or walking day?
If theres a close spot, WooHoo! Im parking.
If not, Im walking, counting the steps
and maybe getting a bit of chocolate to reward myself.

If I'm lucky, I pull in right by the store entrance, if not, I'm happy just to make it safely there.

(10,749 posts)There are at least two who drive around to get a close-in parking spot, then go use a treadmill. Makes no sense.
I park as far away as I can get, I often get in the door faster than those looking for a close space, and mainly I got tired a long time ago of getting door-bangs.

(1,218 posts).....and go to place where they store the carts and then, walk your children and your lazy ass back to your car.
BY THE WAY>> How do you shop..like walking a lot thru the store? You don't have a magic fairy that walks down the aisles for you?
A little bit more walking with that cart is-not-a-big-deal. Geez..

(6,740 posts)Especially with a tiny child. You buckle them in and leave them to return a cart? No!
Number 1-It's hot/cold in that car. Mom needs to hurry and get into an acceptable temperature.
Number 2-Kids get kidnapped/carjacked.
Number 3-Try juggling 2 kids at once.
I'm on her side. And also, cart round up for some employees is a great way to get outside. At least that's what my former grocery store manager wife tells me. Cart round up was an envied job by her employees.

(69,459 posts)Comes off very much as self-important & privileged.
There are millions of shoppers who manage to shop with their kids without ignoring this courtesy to the workers & manage to not take to social media to make a needless point about it.
No way I can take her side.

(4,852 posts)they don't bother to make sure it's secure in its spot. In other words, that it isn't going to roll away at the first breeze. And, you really have to love the idiots who abandon a cart in the middle of a perfectly good parking spot, forcing you to either find another spot or leave your car in the aisle so you can get out and move it yourself.
She's a selfish twit, period. The old woman in the shoe wouldn't have a legit excuse for pulling that stunt.
