There was a quarry near Iowa City where in the summer we locals would go to join the college kids to drink beer, smoke weed, swim and just generally frolic in the nudes. That was back in the days of sex drugs and rock and roll. Many of us went on to live productive lives in spite of a somewhat wayward youth. It certainly was a trip at the time though.

With a couple of friends. We climbed the fence at the country club pool that one of the girls family belonged to and had a blast!! While we were climbing back over the fence to go home the local police drove through the parking lot. One friend had made it over the fence unseen by them. The other gal and I ran to the locker/dressing room to hide. We stayed there, unsure if the police were still out there ‘til we heard a “psst! psst!”- our other friend trying to tell us it was OK to come out!! Being 20 something sure was fun!!

I’ve skinny dipped in a wild creek in Missouri for several years, Lake Michigan, lake Champlaine in Vermont, my friends pools here in Florida. Yeah it’s my preferred way to swim when I get the chance. Not nearly as often as I’d like. The physical sensation is just so different. It’s comforting.

Went to a party about a block from the beach. A couple friends announced that they were going swimming. Got to the beach and they stripped down and jumped in. I followed suit only to realize that they had other plans. I got out, dressed and went back to the party. On the way back I saw someone had gathered their clothes and put them under a street light. Got a laugh and went back. About a half hour later I saw my (angry) naked friend knocking on the window. To this day he thinks that I took his clothes.

Dad had been on the swim team, and he'd always run into old friends. Dad brought all us four boys on Wednesday nights - It was something we'd always look forward to. No clothes, no prob

College in Indiana - A private lake and country club. We snuck in - all men again - stripped and dipped into their private lake. Went prowling around and peeking in the windows at the patrons oblivious of the rule-flaunting going on right under their noses.

Erie Canal town in Western New York - Four of us got an older guy to buy a case of beer for us. One kid's parents were on vacation. Somehow we all ended up naked, except for me, who had my thick black leather belt wrapped around my waist. We walked close to a mile through the streets & down to the canal; climbed up the banks; swam into the downtown village, and climbed out onto the banks. Two guys chickened out, but one friend and myself walked butt-naked down the center of main street. Of course the cops all knew us by name, and would've swooped in and grabbed us if they'd seen us, but somehow we dodged into the shadows as cars passed and we made it home.

Fun one - near Glenwood “San Francisco Hot Springs” - 3 couples - we hiked a mile & a half along a river - had to cross a high flowing river -Thought no one would be there because it was hard to find but about 50 people were naked in the springs. We jumped in too.

Those were the days! I would have to say, my long time honey and I have probably skinny dipped over 50 times as the NM hot springs were calling us.

I had finished nursing school and was working, but still living at home. We had an above ground pool in the backyard. I was working the 3-11 shift, and the hospital that was part of my alma mater, the University of Rochester, was 50 years old in 1973 and not air conditioned. Wearing the white uniforms complete with white panty hose was damn hot.

I’d go in the pool after getting home about midnight. Took off my bathing suit one night after I was in the pool. I was alone and it was completely dark, of course, so not very adventurous. It did feel good.

129. I agree, my husband Rich is from Boston. So we went to Cape Cod. COLD. I don't know if people know that skinny dipping

is only allowed in certain areas. Signs are posted that you are entering the Nude Beach. NO nude swimming is allowed on the main beaches during the day. The Nude beaches are located out of sight of regular swimmers. You can do what you please of private property. But most large beaches have the area separate from bathing suit swimmers. Just bring this up for people who think otherwise---not you.

In the 70s, I was a "back-to-the-land hippie." No commune. Just a bunch of us who congregated at the same time and place through word-of-mouth. Most of us lived in old abandoned houses that had no plumbing or electricity. In the summer, we would gather at the swimming hole to bathe. Just grab your shampoo, a bar of soap, and a towel, and head on down to the creek! We were young and carefree, and there was nothing sexual about it. On Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, and a lake in NJ and another lake in Wisconsin. With guy friends, and the rare moments our girlfriends said, “Oh, what the hell…!” - and joined us. Laughing!

I also remember at a beach house on The Vineyard and nursing a hangover just before I went to Army boot camp, and watching people of all ages walking the beach.
About 6 teen girls come by and a couple of them decided this was the perfect time to get topless and jump into the ocean. All for 1; 1 for all - they all did.

And the reaction of those “people of all ages” walking just a few feet from them…?

They smiled, and waved, and cheered them on, and - kept right on walking as if it was no big deal (because it wasn’t.)

98. Nope. Never. Grew up on Lake Erie with plenty of beaches

at the state park there. Had a children's wading pool in our yard in the summer, as did some neighbors. There were public pools in the city limits, plus the YMCA. Spent a few weeks every summer at my aunt and uncle's home in the country. They had a large swimming pool built into the ground. Went on family vacations to campgrounds and resorts that had beaches or swimming pools.

Never felt a need to skinny dip, not even at night when out with a boyfriend. Too dark and water too cold after sunset. Besides, I enjoyed picking out and showing off bathing suits.

But, there are eels, fresh water clams, and worst of all, drop offs and undertows.

Going in the daytime, when the park is open, there are life guards who know where the safe swimming areas are, based on regular checks of the lake bottom at beaches.

At my uncle's house in the country, there were a few times when black snakes and other snakes crawled through the grass to get into their pool. They were not poisonous, but who wants snakes as swimming companions? At least in the daytime you could see if there were any there and flip them out with a hook that he had for that purpose.

Would not have tried it in daylight because his house was on a main highway, with the pool beside it, visible to everyone driving by.

But, I just never felt an interest in skinny dipping. Did plenty of other things as a teen and 20 something, but that just wasn't one of them.

147. My friend & I were in natural warm springs

In Jemez NM. It was small - only about 15 feet across. She screamed she saw a snake in the water & we both jumped out. Her prescription glasses fell into the hot springs & she was the one who was driving. She said no way was she getting them - so I had no choice but to jump in and get her glasses.

No problem with that snake but about 10 yrs ago was bitten by a rattler in my own yard.

When I was in college, there were a few that were not widely known and they were the skinny dipping sinkholes. The really nice part was that no matter how hot the day got in a Florida summer, the water in those sinks was always cold and clear as could be.

Nothing like spending the day crabbing along a muddy canal and stopping at a sink to rinse off the mud and cool off - that was my introduction to sinkholes.

Now most of them are either part of a public trail in the National Forest or privately owned and fenced off from the public.

Took my swimsuit off while swimming in a lake. The lake access was on my parents' property. (Not a public beach)
It was only me and best friend in the lake. (At least that was all we could see. If there were others they were not in our line of sight. Best friend already knew what I looked like)

I pretty much stayed underwater and then put my suit back on. (Nothing to see)

I worried more about my parents coming down and seeing us more than anything. (Nothing new to see here!!!)

At least I could I say I briefly experienced lake water on my body that was unconstrained by a swimsuit.

170. In an alpine lake in the Sierra Nevadas.

A friend and I had hiked several miles when we decided to hike down another couple of miles to the prettiest little alpine lake I’d ever seen. It was a hot day, so we stripped off and jumped in to cool off. Yikes, it was cold, but so refreshing. We didn’t have towels so we were just sitting on the edge of the lake drying off au naturel, not wanting to worry about chafing on the hike back. Suddenly my friend says “Look! There’s a deer across the lake!” quickly filed by “No, it’s a dog.” and then “Oh shit, there’s people over there!” They had a tent set up and everything. We just waved, got dressed, and left. Later, people were more familiar with the area than us told us there was a back way in to that lake, with just a short hike in after parking.
