in the past five years?
Mine is my slow cooker- it makes the best soups and roast chicken. I can get things going, leave home and return hours later , eat or add extras. Its also great for heating up food.

(15,368 posts)like magic - they are clean as a whistle. Gotta rinse 'em some times but other than that... Oh, and I still gotta pick 'em up off the floor. -- tried to teach her to pick 'em up in her teeth and put 'em back on the table. She's ok with dishes, most of the time, but the cups.... she can't get the handles so half of 'em gets broken. We gotta pick them up off the floor when she's finished.
She didn't like cleaning the cups but after a few weeks, she got the message.... no cups? Then no plates. So all's well now --- well mostly well.
Knives, forkes, cooking stuff -- we rinse 'em off. She can't get the hang of cleaning them either.

(5,393 posts)It can be used as a crock pot but I think most people use the pressurized option (which is electronically controlled and not scary like the old metal pressure cookers that you had to tighten the bolts down on and watch like a hawk while hoping it didnt explode).
The Instapot cooks fall-off-the-bone ribs in less than 30 min.

(102,793 posts)Is the most recent very useful things. Mine has trays and a rotisserie that has a kabob wheel. I use that at least once a week. I also use it to cook bacon and sausages, the whole package all at once, then I can reheat in portions at breakfast. I also like to cook sliced veggies with vinaigrette painted on them. Everything tastes better when cooked in that thing.

I needed a prop for my iPad one day, something heavy and tall enough to hold it, and grabbed the Instapot real quick for a Zoom meeting that was about to start. It's perfect! The pot holds all my pens and lighters and cords and random junk, so my table stays neat. I have a piece of rubber shelf liner as a no-skid mat underneath. Perfect! It lives out on the covered deck now and I use it every day.

It is clearly useful😂😂😂😂

Most useful because it heats quicker and uses the smaller burning instead of the double one. 1200W instead of 1800W, 10 minutes instead of 17.
So it's cheaper to cook with, probably pays for itself over several years.

(9,650 posts)I like my eggs with runny yolks. I have a problem getting a spatula under the frigging things without breaking the yolks. Hence, a t-fal pan (small) for the job. (944 posts)There are fancier ones with variable speeds, different heads, etc. I just have a really cheap 2-speed with one blender blade head. They are really easy to keep clean. So easy just to grab and puree a veggie lentil soup right in the pot, or make a smoothie right in the drinking glass. Especially soups ... you can easily puree very coarsely cut veggies, like sweet potato, cabbage, broccoli, kale, etc, etc, into a creamy smooth puree. This is a Cuisinart ... lots of other brands, too! The shaft/head assembly disconnects at the push of a button for cleaning.

Thanks

(944 posts)... the least expensive Cuisinart, similar to the one in the photo I posted. It's an older model - I've had it for a long time, and it's held up really well. There are fancier models - I think Cuisinart has 3 or 4 - but this simple 2-speed model does everything I need. The motor seems really strong, and I've had zero issues with it. I seem to remember doing a lot of research, and this one kept popping up. Don't know how it's rated now, though.

It doesn't matter if I grease my tin muffin pans or use muffin liners but the bottom off tin muffin pan gets baked egg in it and have I mentioned that I despise scrubbing and washing stuff by hand?
Anyway, I can't wait to try these Silicone Muffin pans for my Egg Bites. I'm definitely going to use a baking/cooking sheet underneath the Silicone muffin pan though. Hopefully, these pans will make #4 useful kitchen appliance or tool.

(7,989 posts)It's like a slow cooker, but uses only retained heat - like a big thermos. You bring a big pot to a boil, then pop it into the sleeve and it stays hot for hours.
I originally bought it for camping. Was able to make really good soups, stews, etc. with no power. It was also useful for heating up water at night so that I had hot water in the morning.
I really like it because it emits very little cooking odors in the home. I've used it for
-split pea soup
- teriyaki chicken thighs

- beef stew
- oven baked ribs (cook in the pot, then finish in the oven).

Hubs is a little better at it than I am but we go back to the old dull ones most of the time. My sister bought me an battery run opener that you place on top of the can & is goes around the top & makes a nice safety cut & it works most of the time, but it's loud & I have an issue using something that takes four batteries just to open a can.

(35,176 posts)that I use for garlic and other small items. The big one is not good for those things and some of them I could do myself but this is so handy. I can whip up Tikka Masala so quickly or anything that uses small amounts of green pepper, I am allergic so it helps a lot. Chops nuts. It is ancient and I know it will be gone one of these days but there are newer ones like it. Then on to my second most useful is the InstaPot. Again Indian food. Just a snap.

(2,297 posts)Peeling the tough outside of an acorn, delicata , or other squash before opening it and spooning out the seeds makes it easy to cut the squash into bite size chunks for oven roasting. Toss the chunks in olive oil, salt, spread on a baking tray and roast for about 20 minutes. Super delicious.

(23,694 posts)instant pot/slow cooker/rice cooker I love it- I can make pinto beans in 2 hours without soaking! Pot roast or stew from frozen meat Gift from my daughter because she thought I should have it.
Air Fryer. I love this thing. This was a gift from my daughter Christmas before last. guess what i use it for the most/ Making toast. it has a toaster setting which makes perfect toast!! We use it for that every day.
I do make amazing chicken breasts, pork chops in it. it's ni. ce for roasting vegetables too.
Finally, my big stand mixer. Not a Kitchenaid, but a $99 knockoff which i like just fine. I bake a lot of cakes and it is just wonderful! Over the years i have worn out 2 Sunbeam Mixmasters but the new ones are not the same, so I went to the kitchenaid style where the beaters turn inside the bowl instead of the other way around. I really did not have the space for the Kitchenaid, anyway

(797 posts)After watching cooking shows and videos for many years, I finally broke down and bought a seriously high-quality knife. The knife was just over $200 plus I bought a sharpener and a honing steel.
Its been life-changing!
Ive since added another very nice utility knife.

(19,373 posts)Many of my most useful or beloved kitchen things are older than that (stand mixer, food processor, knives, cutting boards, etc).
But there are two very good, very useful things I have gotten in that time window: a baking/pizza steel (16 inch square, 1/4 inch thick) and a carbon steel flat bottomed wok (14 in, and flat bottomed because of American gas burners).
And both of these were good examples of awesome kitchen gear need not be expensive, each was under $50US even though I was buying specifically what a knowledgeable person recommended and wasn't bargain hunting.

This one is very discreet. Very thin, thin, and thick (so to speak).
I use it mostly for onions, potatoes & parsnips.

(11,850 posts)I made my recent recipe using 4 eggs so it made 8 Egg Bites.

There was an Egg Bite in the bottom left corner of the silicone muffin pan. There is no egg residue to scrub unlike my tin muffin pans no matter I grease them or line them with cupcake/muffin liners. Yes, the new silicone muffin pans are BPA free.

(16,511 posts)The old-fashioned hand-held kind. In addition to mashing potatoes, it's also perfect for stirring sausage gravy in a skillet; and it comes in very handy during cookie season, does great service in mixing dough with arthritic hands.
I fly solo these days, my kitchen is ridiculously tiny. No space for any of the nifty new stuff like air fryers or toaster ovens. What I'd really like to find is something that would help me keep a head of lettuce from going bad before I can eat all of it; I miss my daily salads, just cannot handle throwing away half of head of lettuce after only a couple of days.

If I had to pick one of the three as most useful, I'll say the refrigerator - after all, it's in use continually.
